The Carbon High School golf team continued its winning ways on Thursday, September 6, when it traveled to River Bend Golf Course in Salt Lake and took first place. River Bend is the home golf course of Juan Diego Catholic High School and they hosted the tournament which featured all the teams in Region eight. The Dinos finished with a team total of 320, just four shots ahead of second place Juan Diego who came in at 324. North Sanpete finished in third place at 338, with Delta coming in at 343 and Emery had a 348. This is the fourth Region Match of the year and the Dinos have won 3 of them and finished in 2nd place in one of the matches.
The leading scorers for the Carbon team were Shayne Burke with a 78, Ryan Nelson and Jordan Pinedo had 79’s and Jason Child had an 84. Each week eight golfers from each team golf on varsity and the top four scores are totaled to reach the team score. At the end of the season the top four teams from the region will send their top six players to compete in the State Tournament to be held at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway. The tournament will take place on Wednesday, October 3rd and Thursday, October 4th.
With only three region matches left, the Dinos have just about locked up the region title. The standings at this point are Carbon – 1287; North Sanpete – 1355; Juan Diego – 1357; Delta – 1358; Emery – 1462. The next match will be on Sept. 13 at Delta.
