Olmos goes for hat trick in Carbon win over Grantsville

After a couple years of building the team, the fruits of their hard work seem to be paying off. The Carbon High Girl’s soccer team trounced Grantsville in a shutout at home Friday night by the score of 6-0. Even though it was against a region team it was still a pre-season game.
The win ups the Dinos record to 1-4 so far. Two of the wins were only half games, but they played Union and South Summit each for a half, but did it back to back, like a complete game. Delta was the only team that beat Carbon so far. In their first game of the season, the team went to Delta and as soon as they got behind, quit playing. “It was a tough day, mentally, for them,” added Coach Henrie. But after the recent wins, Carbon is ready for the Rabbits when they meet up with them on Sept. 19 for the start of region play.
On Friday, the team came out ready to play and took it to Grantsville from the start. They scored their first goal before five minutes had ticked off the clock. They dominated the first half and didn’t allow Grantsville a shot on goal until late in the period.
Carbon scored three goals in the first and three in the second to complete their rout. Felicia Olmos had a hat trick. Brittany McKibbon added two of her own and Hannah Downard sent one into the net as well. The entire offense was playing aggressive and took a lot of shots on goal throughout the game.
Goalie Rebecca Rummel had a little more work in the second half, but she did not allow anything to pass in the shutout.
“She is stepping up as the team leader, keeping the team going. She provides motivation,” Henrie said of Rummel’s role on the team.
Henrie went on to say that this is the best team yet. “We are having a great year so far. This team really clicks and works well together.
They are talking on the field and learning each other’s styles so they can anticipate who will be where when they need to.” She added “I knew all along they could be this good, they just had to realize it.”
