In what should have been a time of pure joy after the Carbon football team won its first game in over a year, was instead a brief respite from the overwhelming pain from the loss of his brother-in-law, Brandon Kimber in the mine disaster the night before.
Dealing with the shock and loss on Friday, Coach Tim Tiller headed up to Spanish Fork to lead his team in their first game of the season against American Leadership Academy. Going to the game was not an easy decision for Coach Tiller, but his family felt like that was where he should be and the team wanted him there.
As they suited up and readied themselves to play, each of the team came up and put their arms around the coach and gave him a hug. The boys told him they would not lose the game at any cost. In the end, after the finally seconds ticked off the clock, they swarmed him, and for a moment all the pain and loss went away.
Tiller choked back emotion as he talked about the win and his own person struggles with the death. He wanted to say thank-you for the outpouring of sympathy and caring from the community and the Carbon High administration over the past days.
