Charlie Saccomanno
SPRING GLEN – Charlie Saccomanno, age 93, passed away Aug. 13, 2007 at home with his family by his side.
He was born July 26, 1914 in Spring Glen to Ralph and Maria Theresa Potestio Saccomanno. Married Grace Tallerico Jan.16, 1938 in Price. She passed away on Dec. 12, 2001.
Charlie was a fun loving, kind hearted man who was known by many and loved by all who met him. He always felt he had no enemies and he was very proud of that fact.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his first love was for family and his farm.
Charlie enjoyed taking care of his many animals and growing fruits and vegetables to share with neighbors and friends. He pedaled fruit all over Carbon County for years and met many wonderful people on his way.
When his son and grandsons were young, he never missed any of their sporting events and he also coached Pony League in his younger years.
He was the meter reader for the Spring Glen Water Company for 38 years and worked in the coal mines for over 40 years. Charlie was a proud union member and a retired member of the UMWA Local 8622.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Charlie was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and in 2005 he was honored as the grand marshal of Spring Glen Days. He was a member of Price Elks Lodge 1550.
He will be dearly missed by his family, many friends and loved ones.
Charlie is survived by four daughters and one son; Marie (Cort) Lodder, Kaysville; Toni Greco, Rose Park; Carole (Seldon) Barker, Spring Glen; Valerie Stamatakis, Price; Ralph (Mickey) Saccomanno, Spring Glen; sisters, Gemma Larcher and Pauline Lapore; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents; wife; sisters, Mary Colombo, Carmella Priano; brothers, Joe, Jim and Armond; and son-in-law, Frank Greco.Funeral Mass, Saturday, August 18, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church, Helper. Vigil service, Friday evening, 7 p.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Friday and Saturday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Robert Lee Ashley
EAST CARBON – Robert Lee Ashley, 71, passed away Aug. 7, 2007 at his home.
Bob was born May 23, 1936 , in Ozark, Ark., to Robert Lee and Bessie Hensley Ashley. He married Rose Nadine Sleath Hopkins on Oct. 26, 1961.
Bob was an intelligent, opinionated man with a wonderful sense of humor who had a great love for family and friends.
He was so dedicated to “my Rose” that he stayed with her at Castle Country Care Center to help her adapt to living there. On his last day, he talked about things that were in their house because “my Rose likes them.”
Bob was a talented woodworker who hand-pieced several beautiful boxes for his family. He hand-finished gun stocks and leaded them so the rifles didn’t kick. He was highly skilled with leatherwork.
Bob served in the U.S. Army in Germany for four years. He earned an associate’s at the College of Eastern Utah and was an X-ray technician. He was a coal miner for many years and a dedicated member of UMWA.
He is survived by wife and her children Timothy A. (Trisha) Hopkins, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Melody Kim Patrick, Sunnyside; grandchildren Timothy R. Hopkins, Camille Hopkins, Ryan Patrick, Sheena Patrick, two great-grandchildren and many friends. He was preceded in death by parents, step-father Kenneth “Kink” Daniel; brothers, William Ashley and Gary Daniel.
Memorial services will be Friday, Aug. 17, 2 p.m., at Fausett Mortuary, 680 E. 100 South, Price. Cremains will be spread by family and friends at a later date.
Bob has requested no flowers.
Colleen Funcannon Thompson
PRICE – Colleen Louise Funcannon Thompson, age 71, passed away August 14, 2007. Colleen was born October 30, 1935, the daughter of Roy and Louise Funcannon.
Colleen is survived by daughter, Christine (Donald) Pappacostas Archuleta, Price; son, Guy (Vicki) Thompson, Tacoma, Wash.; two brothers, Donald (LaRae) Funcannon, St. George; and David Roy Funcannon, Price; 12 grandkids, and 12 great-grandkids.
Colleen was preceded in death by her husband, William Wade Thompson; parents; and son, Nicholas Thomas Pappacostas.
At her request, no services will be conducted. Friends and family are invited to offer their condolences at 450 North 100 East in Price Saturday, Aug. 18, from 1 to 3 p.m.
