Two Price Western Base-Ball Association All-star teams, Carbon White and Carbon Blue, are in Logan this week participating in the 52nd annual “Little World Series” of WBBA. A total of eight WBBA teams from throughout Utah qualified for this season ending tournament that gets underway today, July 31. The teams are divided into two pools for the first three days of the week long meet. The top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals on Friday and the championship game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon. In keeping with past practice, all eight teams will play each day during the week regardless of win or loss records. Carbon White is in pool one with Logan, Vernal Blue and Morgan. Carbon Blue will begin competition in pool two along with Providence, Vernal Red and Grantsville. Games are being played on two different diamonds in the Northern Utah city, Dahle Park and Lundstrom Park. Prior to the championship game on Saturday a memorial service is planned to honor the memory of the late president of WBBA, Bob Fieldsted, who died earlier this month at his home in Altamont. His wife, Connie and son Mick, will be present to accept the association’s N. Gayle Nielson award post-posthumously to Fieldsted for service to youth. Nielson was one of the original organizers of WBBA who passed away five years ago.
