Rantings and Ravings

We are fast approaching the one year anniversary of the Dino-Mine park build. During the past year there has still been people working and volunteering their time to continue to improve on what the community accomplished.
Many, many people gave of their time, money and hearts to see this project to fruition. Many of us talk with pride about the park and hold it up as one of the many things that make our little community better.
When we first started looking for a location for the park, several of us lobbied to find a location in south Price. Knowing families in south Price are not as blessed with some of the area attractions that are located in north Price, we fought hard.
But reality set in as individuals who are in charge of the parks and equipment noted how frequently things are damaged by vandalism in south Price. A few bad apples spoil it for the majority. So north Price got the nod.
Well, north Price, we seem to have some of the same issues right in our own back yard. Since the sprinklers have been turned back on it seems to be a nightly ritual to smear and throw as much mud as possible all over the park.
Vandals have ripped off plaques that recognize the donations of money from individuals. The memory memorial has had stone benches broken almost as soon as they were installed.
There are cameras installed, but the lights to illuminate the park are on backorder so the pictures aren’t helpful yet.
Members of the committee are offering $100 reward for any one who helps catch and convict a vandal.
I am vary frustrated by the cry of a few youth that there is nothing to do here so they have to go out and drink and have sex. This is an insult to the many people who are continually working hard to meet the wants and desires of all. Many youth groups actively participate in the planning processes to bring in new activities to our community.
Price City, Carbon County and various organizations and religious groups work tirelessly to create a quality of life for every age group. But in a minute a small handful of people can wreck the efforts and dishearten the spirits of the most dedicated among us.
The park that was created, built and dedicated to the kids in our community should not be wrecked by a small group of dissolutioned soles. As a community we need to be aware of what is happening and make every effort to help change the direction this is going.
If you know of someone who is doing this, please tell someone about it. Think about making some extra trips past the park to help put some extra “eyes” on the place.
And lastly parents and grandparents should talk to your kids about respect for our community.
Like it or not, this is what we have.
