As I have traveled around to the various interesting locations in Utah, I have always tried to purchase a daily or weekly newspaper from that area.
In various locations within the state I have read several articles referring to policemen driving the city owned police car while they were off duty. The recent tragic incident that took place at Trolley Square makes me wonder if the kid who did it wouldn’t have killed many more people if it had not been for the off duty policeman who fired at the murderer and made him take cover until the Salt Lake City police arrived.
I have seen a policeman pull up in front of a grocery store in a police car in civilian cloths and go into the store and shop. I saw one arrive at a theater with his wife and two small children in a city police car. I saw another arrive in a police cruiser dressed in civilian cloths to attend a viewing at a mortuary.
Did it bother me? Not in the least. For I will bet you money, marbles or chalk he was carrying his fire arm, not just for his protection but for mine as well. And he would not hesitate to use it to save my life.
