Local action in Western Base-Ball Association (WBBA all-star tournament play is winding up by next week, in fact the minor league (10 and under ages)will finish up this week. After a series of round robin play among the six teams, the top four are seeded in the double elimination regional meets. The four qualifiers for the major regional will not be determined until Thursday, the final four beginning play Saturday, July 14. In the minor league activity the two Carbon teams, White and Blue, along with Helper and Green River are involved in regional play this week, the finals scheduled for Thursday or Friday, depending upon the results of Thursday’s game. In the first round of minor league action Monday Carbon White defeated Green River and Helper downed Carbon Blue. On Tuesday of this week Carbon White handed Helper a loss and Green River eliminated Carbon Blue. Helper and Green River met Wednesday afternoon in an elimination game, the winner to challenge Carbon White on Thursday. Carbon White is definitely in the driver’s seat as still the only undefeated team. Any or all of the local minor league teams have the option of entering the state WBBA 10 and under tournament in Kearns next week. Further action among the major teams will continue Saturday when the four-team regional tournament gets under way. Games are played at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. each afternoon. In keeping with the local tradition of rotating the sites of the annual tournaments, Wellington is the site of the games this year, with the overlapping games played on the Carbon west field. The winner and second place teams in the major league action from the local region win a berth in the upcoming “little world series” of WBBA scheduled to begin in Logan on July 31.
