Aaron Sandovol is all grins after he unloads for a solo home run in the bottom of the third against Cyprus last Wednesday night |
With only one game on the American Legion schedule for the Fourth of July week, Helper’s bats woke up and they beat Olympus, 16-7, in a game shorten by the 9-run rule.
Tyler Turcasso pitched five solid innings and got the win. AJ Mitcheson came in on relief and finished the 5th inning and 6th inning. “Tyler did a nice job all game and really kept the Olympus hitters guessing while Mitcheson also did a nice job.” commented Coach Cisneros.
Helper showed some signs of life by jumping out early, scoring eight runs in the 1st inning. Aaron Sandoval started the game off with a double, JD Sherman and Kyler Edgehouse reached on errors and JJ Blue was hit by a pitch. Bradey Wilde had a 2 RBI single followed by another 2 RBI single by Marcus Zaccaria. Trevor Thompson also had a 2 RBI double in the inning.
Olympus scored two in the first, one in the second, three in the 5th and one in the 6th as they attempted to stay in the game. Helper didn’t sit on their laurels and kept the scoring pressure up. They scored three more in the 4th inning on a 3 run home run by Zaccaria.
Helper added one in the 5th on a solo homerun by Thompson and finished the scoring by adding four more in the 6th. A single by Thompson, a double by Sandoval and a 3 run shot over the fence by JD Sherman rounded things out.
Cisneros summed up the win by saying , “Overall this was a very good game for us. We did commit four errors in the game but we offset those errors with good hitting all game.”
The team resumes play at home, Monday the 9th against first place Kearns at 7p.m.
