Local hardballer selected to international team

Kyle Asay goes hard to home plate in a game earlier this year vs. ALA. Asay played first base and pitched for the Carbon High Dinos.

Carbon High School graduate, Kyle Asay has been chosen to represent the United States and Carbon County as a member of the Coast to Coast Baseball League. Asay will be competing in Puerto Rico this summer from June 25 to July 1 against the top amateur teams from around the world.
Asay showcased his skills for the Coast to Coast staff at a recent tryout conducted at Payson. During the tryout Asay was evaluated in four areas: hitting, fielding, arm strength and speed.
Each year Coast to Coast looks at 1500-2000 players at a series of nationwide tryouts and also evaluates players who are unable to attend the tryouts. From this large pool approximately 300 roster spots, comprising 20-25 teams are filled with players seeking to play at one of the games highest levels.
Asay played first base and pitched this year for the Carbon High varsity baseball team, Asay has maintained a varsity positions since his sophomore season.
Coast to Coast is a national baseball and youth development program that has taken over 1000 player from 46 different states to compete in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Australia and Puerto Rico. Coast to Coast’s goal is to provide amateur ball players with instruction, competition, education and culture.
In addition to his love for baseball Asay is a member of the Carbon Youth Commission. Asay is interest in pursuing an education in architecture and plans on attending a junior college in Southern California where he will continue his baseball career. In order to maintain his amateur status, Asay is seeking to raise his share of the team’s cost and will require outside donation.
“I would just like to acknowledge everyone who has helped me to achieve my goals,” concluded Asay.
