Hunger is a daily reality faced by many families in Carbon County and throughout Utah
Data indicate that one in seven Utah households struggle to afford an adequate amount of food to meet the needs of family members.
The summer months are especially difficult for the 32 percent of children who access free and reduced price meals at school.
However, there is a federal program available in 17 Utah counties, including the Carbon area.
The federally funded summer food program provides free lunch and breakfast to children younger than the age of 18 years old at designated locations, pointed out Utahns Against Hunger.
The federally funded summer food program is specifically designed to replace the meals students access during the school year.
Carbon County schools participating in the summer food program include:
•Castle Valley Center, Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. until Aug. 10.
Castle Valley Center is located at 755 North Cedar Hills Drive in Price.
•Petersen Elementary, Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. until Aug. 3.
