Deadline for FYI – is Tuesday at noon. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or e-mailed to fyi@sunad.com.
Items submitted after the deadline will run in the next week’s FYI. All brief news items submitted for the FYI sections are subject to editing.
Cell phones for seniors – are available at Carbon County RSVP. The program provides seniors with cell phones that dial 911 in emergencies at no cost to participants. For information, call the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Food handlers classes – are scheduled June 20 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the public health department in Price. Two-hour classes will also be taught June 21 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health district in Castle Dale. Test fees are required. Contact Claron Bjork at 637-3671.
Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at the health district Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Castle Country Habitat for Humanity – is accepting applications. Donations may be sent to PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501. The office is located at 150 S. 700 E. Price, UT. For information, contact the organization at 637-9701.
Free legal clinics – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the district court complex, 149 E. 100 South, Price. Carbon County residents should bring all pertinent documents pertaining to legal questions. For information, contact the agency toll-free at 1-800-662-1563.
Women’s cancer screening – Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the health district at 637-3671.
CASA volunteers needed – Court appointed special advocate volunteers are men and women who want to help abused and neglected children. Residents interested in volunteering to participate in the program may contact the CASA coordinator at (435) 381-5595.
Rape crisis hot line – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Carbon County Animal Shelter – Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents may use the nursery for respite, doctor and mental health appointments, court appearances, medical emergencies, family crisis, A/Narcotic Anonymous meetings, divorce classes and to escape domestic violence. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. For information, call the center at 637-0281. The center is also collecting donations for displaced families. Furniture items will be accepted only if the center has families in need.
CEU Prehistoric Museum – From April through September, the museum will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For additional information, contact the museum.

Events


Price Memorial Day service – Price American Legion Post 3, VFW Miners Post 2379 and Price Marine Corps League will honor American veterans at a special service May 28.
The ceremony is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial in the Price City Cemetery.
Veterans interested in participating in the event should meet at the Utah National Guard building no later than 10:30 a.m. Veterans are encouraged to wear military uniforms.
Helper Memorial Day service – Helper American Legion Post will host the event May 28 at 9 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery.
Helper Idol – Residents interested in participating in the musical event may choose a song to practice by logging onto www.thisisyourband.
The talent competition is scheduled as part of the county fair and Helper Arts and Musical Festival.
Helper Outlaw Car Show – The event is planned June 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Helper City Park. Vendor space is available. For information, contact Summer McBride at 630-6771.
Carbon County Fair – Vendors interested in participating in the event, scheduled Aug. 10 and Aug. 11, may contact Mae Aguayo at 637-3671 for information and applications.
Sunnyside Rodeo – is slated July 13 and July 14.
The royalty contest is scheduled June 24 at 5 p.m. at Sunnyside arena.
The rodeo royalty will consist of a queen, first and second attendants and two princesses.
Queen and attendant candidates must be 13 years of age or older on the date of the contest. Princess contestants must be 12 years old or younger.

Emery cheerleading clinic – The clinic for youth ages 3 to 12 years old is planned June 5, June 6 and June 7.
The clinic is slated from 9 to 11 a.m. daily at Huntington City Park.
Children participating in the cheerleading clinic will be divided into age groups.
The registration fee includes a T-shirt.
To register, residents should contact Becky Bunnell by May 30.

NBHA – Races are scheduled at Carbon County Fairgrounds at 7 p.m. on May 29, June 26, July 3, Aug. 7, Aug. 28, Sept. 4 and Sept. 18. District finals are Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. Dress code applies. Events slated at Castle Dale arena include June 19, 7 p.m.; July 17, 7 p.m.; July 31, 7 p.m.; Aug. 14, 7 p.m.; and Sept. 11, 7 p.m. Fees are required.
Square dancing – is the first and third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the senior citizens center in Price.
MOPS – The Mothers of Preschoolers group meets the second and fourth Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at Price Chapel.
Castle Country King Crawlers – Meetings are the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at King Crawler 4×4 at county fairgrounds.
Castle Country Quilters – The group meets the third Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m. at the Price senior center.
BACA – meets at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month at Kraync Motor in Price.
Castle Country Fiber Guild – meets the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m.
Masonic Lodges – Regular activities include Carbon Lodge 16, F&AM, first Mondays, 7:30 p.m.; Joppa Lodge 26, F&AM, first Tuesdays, 7:30 p.m.; Eastern Star, Naomi Chapter 13, first Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Job’s Daughters, Bethel 3, second and fourth Saturdays, 10 a.m..; and York Rite (chapter, council, commandary alternating), first Wednesdays, 7:30 p.m. Utah Eastern Shrine Club.
Castle Valley Archaeology Society – meets the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. in the CEU museum classroom.
Carbon County Historical Society – meets the last Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the senior center.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. at the public safety dispatch center in Price.
Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly in the Carbon County area.
Newborns in Need- Residents are encouraged to donate baby items for needy infants in Carbon County. For information on volunteering or donating items, contact Teresa Kilcrease at 637-5324.
Castle Country OHV – Meetings are the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the fairgrounds building.
CUSCRA – meets the second Tuesday of the month at the Log Palace at 7 p.m. For information.
Utah Friends of Paleontology – meets the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at CEU Prehistoric Museum. Business meeting is at 6:30 p.m.
