Connie Kosmack
HELPER – Our loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Connie Johnatakis Kosmack, age 62, passed away May 14, 2007 with her husband and sons by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Grief is not forever, but love is.
She was born May 13, 1945 in Hiawatha to Jim and Chole Allred Johnatakis. Married Johnny Kosmack Feb. 5, 1965 in Price.
Connie had a deep devotion and love for her family. Her family and friends were the most important part of her life and she made sure of that.
Whether it was the Greek Easter outgoings with family, sharing time with her occasional gambling trips with Johnny, Connie always found something special to share with others.
She was a lifelong resident of Carbon County, where she retired from PacifiCorp at the Huntington plant.
She enjoyed cooking, working in her garden, shopping, and listening to music.
Connie leaves behind a legacy that will last a lifetime.
She is survived by husband, Johnny Kosmack, Helper; sons, Kirk Kosmack and David Reynolds, Coventry, R.I.; Tom Kosmack, Roosevelt; three grandchildren, Carsyn, Kyle and Ty Kosmack; four sisters and one brother, Johnny Johnatakis, Salt Lake City; Elaine Norton, Wellington; Mary Lee Greenland, Longview, Wash.; Shirley Cooper, Price; and Betty Workman, Sandy. Preceded in death by parents; and brother, Jimmy Johnatakis.
Funeral service Friday, May 18, 1 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Josephine Vieta
PRICE – Josephine Bonza Vieta, the quintessential mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, was reunited with her son, Bert; husband, Fred; and brother, Louis; on May 8, 2007.
She was born in Woodside on June 29, 1923, the youngest child of Fred and Ambrosina Bonza.
She married Fred Vieta May 15, 1943 in Price. They were the proud parents of one son, Bert.
Jo graduated from Carbon High School and was a proud and faithful Carbonette always. She attended business college in Salt Lake City and retired from a long and happy career at Union Pacific Railroad Hospital Employees Association.
Josephine was a devout member of the Catholic Church, St. Ambrose Parish. In 2005, she was honored as St. Ambrose Parish Woman of the Year.
Her enthusiasm, devotion and caring spirit knew no limits. She was the best mother-in-law anyone could ever imagine.
The light of her life shines on in her two greatgrandsons, Jackson Matthew and Christian Thomas.
Jo’s constant and beloved feline companion, Tabby, met her at the Rainbow Bridge on May 9, 2007.
Josephine is survived by her wonderful sister, Adele Carlow; and daughter-in-law, Robyn. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jon Christian (Kristie), Jaime Vieta-Myers (Eric), Lindsay Vieta-Satovick; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Christian, Kelsie and Kourtnie; and many, many dear family members and friends.
Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, May 15, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Vigil service was Monday. Committal, Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Neil O’Donnell and Sons.
Grace is the participation of the very presence of God. Jo knew that grace well!
Wayne Harris
PRICE – Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and friend, Wayne Hubert Harris, age 91, passed away May 16, 2007 at his home.
He was born April 13, 1916 in Monticello to Joseph Hubert and Emma Corline Hadden Harris. Married Elma Ileen John June 24, 1939 in Farmington, N.M.; marriage later solemnized in the Mesa, Ariz. LDS Temple in 1942.
Wayne was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as an explorer scout master.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Horse Cavalry in Ft. Riley, Kan. and overseas in the Philippines where he was a cook and baker.
Wayne was very active in his community and while living in Durango, Colo., and Moab, he served in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff.
He also spent many years working in the uranium mines, coal mines and the mills throughout Colorado, Utah and New Mexico.
His years of labor have come to an end, but the sacrifices that he gave for his country, family and work will live on forever.
Survived by loving wife of 67 years, Elma Harris, Price; children, Oliver (Barbara) Harris, Blanding; Elma (Ivin) Palmer, Flora Vista, N.M.; Ruth Nicol, LaSal; Linda (Ron) Kennedy, Cleveland; Bonnie (Bob) Crum, Kirtland, N.M.; Jo Ellen (Clay) Atwood, Price; Chad (Sandra) Harris, Monticello; Nivana (Jeff) Hocker, Red Mesa, Colo.; Orlin John Harris, Naturita, Colo.; sister, Ida Harris Elkins (age 97), Trowbridge, Calif.; 47 grandchildren, 118 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by son-in-law, Ervin Sheets; granddaughter, Justina Sheets; son-in-law, John Nicol; and grandson, James Harris.
Funeral service Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m. at the Price 11th LDS Ward Chapel. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Saturday, May 19, 6 p.m., Kline Colorado Cemetery.
Eutimio ‘Tim’ Sanchez
SUNNYSIDE – Our loving and caring father, grandfather, brother and friend, Tim Sanchez, age 60, passed away peacefully in his home on May 11, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 2, 1947 in Gallup, N.M., to Eugene and Paula Sanchez.
Tim had a big, generous heart and loved to make people laugh. His sense of humor could always keep you laughing and put a smile on your face.
He loved to spend time with his five dogs, especially Louie. He loved the outdoors and going fishing with his friends. Even just spending time relaxing in his yard. He was also a great collector of antiques.
He was proud to serve his country in Vietnam. He was an artist in his profession as a hardwood floor and refinishing installer.
He will truly be missed by all.
He is survived by wife, Diane; daughters, Kimberly (Burton) Berry, Krys (Ray) Cordova; JoVonne Sanchez; grandchildren, Jerrica, Josh and Jackson; brothers, Gilbert, Gerald, Jacob and George; sisters, Veronica, Lyn, Marcia, Gina and Pearl. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Eloy; and sister, Angela.

Dwane Brand
KINGMAN, Ariz. – Dwane L. Brand, 81, passed away April 27, 2007 in Kingman, Ariz.
He worked as a construction worker and carpenter most of his life.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a miner at Plateau Mining Company from 1981 to 1991.
He was dearly loved and shall be greatly missed.
He is survived by wife, Sherry, Kingman, Ariz.; children, Shaun, Kingman, Ariz.; Donnie, Roger Diane, Salt Lake City; Sue Lil, Vernal; Pam, Wellington; Judy, Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Mary, Osceola, Iowa; and 20 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents, two infant children, two brothers and two sisters.
Nita Smith
PRICE – Nita Laura Smith, 92, passed away May 10, 2007 in Price.
She was born July 6, 1914 in Summit, Iron County, to David Pierce and Annie Laura Pratt Cheney. Nita married Melvin Thomas Smith Sept. 22, 1933 in Mesa, Ariz.
She was an active member of the LDS Church.
She was a dedicated mother and homemaker.
Nita is survived by children, Ronald (Gloria), Cedar City; Ray (Dale), Tampa Bay, Fla.; David (Judy), Sandy; Marden (Mary), LaPine, Ore.; and Carol (Lawrence) Flower, Wellington. She has 24 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents; brothers; sisters; and husband, Melvin.
Funeral services were Monday, May 14 in St. George under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary. Interment, Washington City Cemetery.
