Editor:
The “Great American ripoff” started early this spring as gasoline prices rose to more than $3 a gallon in recent weeks. Normally the motoring public could expect the price rise to start on Memorial Day weekend, the usual start of the summer drive season.
Meanwhile, the oil companies, Exxon for example, reported the largest profit figure ever reported by a corporation in the United States in its latest financial report. Just what are state or federal government doing about this ripoff. Absolutely nothing.
An investigation by a state agency into the situation several months ago resulted in no action on the state level. On the federal level, the present administration is occupied in the oil war in Iraq and the oil barons are counting their money.
