As Carbon heads toward the play-offs their bats have become hotter that a jalape�o pepper on fire. Playing three games in two days it was quite an offensive show that the Dinos put on. The team racked up 40 points during the three game sweep.
First up was their last home game as they met up with ALA on Thursday. They took that game 12-1. Then they traveled to North Sanpete to take on the Hawks in a double header. They took game one 14-3 and then followed it up with an 18-7 win. With that they sewed up a second place seed in region play with one game left against Delta.
The game against ALA was a wild one, a Bradey Wilde one anyway. Wilde was the starting pitcher who held ALA to only one run in the game. He also went 4-4 with five hits including a double and two triples. He is credited with six RBIs. That is half of the scoring for the Dinos on the game.
On Friday they traveled to North Sanpete to take on the Hawks. Even though the Hawks are not as strong of team as some, the Dinos did not let off. In game one Jordan Moynier helped get things off and running with a first inning home run. Even though the Dinos had a 6-2 lead before the third was over it was the in fourth that Carbon really put the icing on the game. They exploded for six in that inning. The Hawks had their shot at getting back in the game with three in the fifth, but that was the end of their offenses. Wilde added a homer in the game as well.
In game two each team started with some good defense and it was Carbon who drew first blood in the third with two. In the fifth North Sanpete put up three and pulled the game within three. The Dinos tacked on two in the bottom of the fifth. It was the sixth that the Hawks couldn’t buy an out as like they had Carbon on a Merry-go round. Ten Dinos crossed the plate before it was over.
With one final gasp, North Sanpete had a four run rally to bring their score to seven. Brett Johnson and JJ Blue each crushed one over the fence. Wilde hit a three bagger to continue his hot hitting streak. Johnson added a double and a triple to his stats as well.
“We took care of business,” was Coach Troy Moynier’s summation of the games. “I was glad we ended the first game against North Sanpete in five because you never know what your pitching situation will be in a double header.” He was happy to see the good play of his team and felt like the timing was good because they had let a few games slip away in the middle of the season.
The team will have one final regular season Thursday game against Delta. “I want the team to play well, but it will not affect the standings no matter what way it goes,” remarked Moynier.
The team will travel to St. George on May 12 to start post season play. They will play either Tooele or Logan.
