Even the comfort of playing on their home field for the first time in weeks didn’t help the Eagles as they faced top ranked Southern Idaho. With mirror records, Southern Idaho at 27-9 and CEU at 9-27 it was evident who was the better team as CSI downed the Eagles 2-1, 13-1, 6-2, and 7-0 in the weekend series.
For the Eagles, the first game was the highlight of the series when they just missed a win with a narrow 2-1 defeat. Jake Bankowski pitched a complete game for the Eagles. He allowed one run in the first and then held SN scoreless. CEU piked up their only run in the second. They actually out hit the opposition 6-4 but just could not parlay the hits into runs. CSI put one up in the seventh to take the win in a defensive duel.
Cole Evans took the mound in the second of the series and the silence that Bankoski had experienced was erased in an explosion of hits by CSI. They scored 13 runs on 13 hits with a 5 run 4th and 7th inning to cap off the rout. Six errors committed by the Eagles helped give CSI their win.
Errors also plagued the team again in the early game Saturday. With Jayson Madson on the mound, he did his best to keep the Eagles in the game. The team committed seven errors over the course of the game and CSI came out on top 6-2.
In the final game the Eagles went down without a squeak as they got shut out 0-7. Marcus Hamatake gave up six hits and 4 runs over six innings while the Eagles failed to show any offense to help him out. The final two regular season games will take place at the Carlson-Colosimo field this weekend against Western Nevada. Game times will start at 1 p.m. on Friday and 12 noon on Saturday with double headers on both days.
