Mayor reports 2006 impact board figures to Price City council members
During the April 3 Price City Council meeting Mayor Joe Piccolo reported the Utah Permanent Community Impact Fund Board’s figures for the 2006 funding period.
He said the CIB totaled $184 million in total projects. The figures represent all grants, loans and city-paid involvement in all projects. Of the total, $35 million was given in grants. The funding body provided funds to nine counties during the year, including sizable contributions in Carbon County.
“I am very excited about the growth that has been provided in our area thanks to these funds,” said Piccolo.
East Carbon to observe its own Arbor Day in Viking Park on April 20
The city of East Carbon officially adopted the third Friday in the month of April to be the city’s Arbor Day. This year that falls on April 27. The events celebrating the day will be in Viking Park between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
Mayor LaFontaine will give his official proclamation on the adoption of the new holiday and Natalie Conlin, a forestry agent, will discuss the importance and benefit of trees.
The Petersen Elementary choir will also be performing during the ceremonies. A plaque commemorating the day will be placed and a tree planting will follow the program.
State, national fire officials seek public comments at town hall meeting in Price
Fire officials will host a town hall meeting on April 21 at 10 a.m. at the Price City fire station to discuss wildfire protection plans for Price and the surrounding areas. Officials will seek public input at the meeting, including discussion on available funding, priorities of projects and other areas.
Five national fire agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service and Fish and Wildlife Service; and the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands participate in an interagency effort to prevent and fight wildfires in the state.
