In the middle of a long road swing, the Lady Dinos stopped in Delta for two. The team dropped the first game in a defensive struggle with a 0-1 loss. The second game was all about offense and it wasn’t from the Dinos. The 13-3 loss was a stark difference from game one and a disappointment compared to what Coach Pinedo had hoped for.
The first game of the double header had Paige Pinedo on the mound for Carbon. She gave up a run in the first for the only run she let across the plate. She was backed up by some of the best defense Carbon has shown this season. The team managed to turn a rare triple play to take the Rabbits out of a potentially big inning. They played the entire game without an error.
Opportunities to score were there in the game, but the team just could not find the hits to move even one runner across. The Dinos racked only two hits the early game. It was a tough loss for the team and they took their loss hard.
Delta on the other hand was buoyed by their victory and took the momentum right into the next game. They jumped out with a big lead by putting four on the board in the first. The Dinos took back a run by posting one in the top of the second.
Carbon though they had a few questionable calls early and it seemed to affect their play. They found themselves in a nine run hole before the second was through. They settled down and began to play better ball. They held Delta scoreless for the next two innings while scoring two in the fourth.
In the fifth the Dinos failed to cut the deficit any more and the Rabbits exploded for three more and ended the game. “It was disappointing to lose that way after playing such good ball in the first game.” stated Coach Pinedo. “I was pleased with the play in the first game and was hoping to take at least a split against Delta.” Carbon did manage to pound out six hits in the game.
The team now has to head up for their final game against Juan Diego on Tuesday. “We are working on getting ready for them,” Pinedo stated, “We know they are not a 17 point team and we are playing much better now.” The Dinos will have a pair of non-region game against Wasatch on Wednesday and then head down to Emery for a double header. Carbon and Emery are tied at the bottom of the region with Delta just a game ahead of them. By the end of the week, the team will probably know if they will get a shot at the playoffs.
