Paige Pinedo winds up and launches one at the plate during an earlier game versus Juan Diego.

North Sanpete Hawks are leading region eight softball this season and Carbon saw why as they lost 8-1 on Tuesday. Both teams racked up nine hits on the afternoon, but it was the stronger Hawks that put theirs together to score.
Even though they were a much stronger team, North Sanpete had to work for their runs as Carbon pitcher Paige Pinedo only gave up two walks in the game. The Dino defense did not allow the Hawks to have a big inning, but confined their scoring to one or two runs an inning. Coach Pinedo felt that said a lot for his team against such a good opponent.
The Dinos hit the ball well but could not parlay anything into a run until the fifth. It was Carbon’s clean up hitter, Erika Potts, who crushed the ball on a one hop to the fence. She motored her way to third with a triple. Tammy Harwood drove her home with a single to give the Dinos their only score in the game.
Coach Pinedo still feels optimistic in the play he is seeing in his team. “I know I’ve said this before, but we are just a few plays away from going head to head with the good teams.” Emery beat Delta and now sits tied with the Dinos for third. Delta has lost all five of their region games so far and Carbon will meet them on Thursday for a double header. Coach Pinedo would like to come away with a sweep, but will be happy if they take at least 1 of 2.
The team stays on the road until April 26th when they get to play a double header in front of the home crowd against North Sanpete.
