Newly appointed editor of Salt Lake Weekly, Holly Mullen, will keynote College of Eastern Utah’s 28th annual women’s conference titled “If the Shoe Fits” on April 20. Registration for the day-long conference is from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center located at approximately 300 E. and 500 North.
Mullen accepted the editor’s position at Salt Lake Weekly last week. She spent 26 years in professional journalism, holding numerous jobs as newspaper reporter, editor, columnist and most recently, blogger.
She is a Salt Lake City native and 1981 graduate of the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in communication. Her career has taken her to Washington, Minnesota and Texas, with positions at daily newspapers and alternative papers in Minneapolis and Dallas. In 1998 Holly returned to Salt Lake City after 13 years. She began her career at the Salt Lake Tribune with a job as social services reporter. In 1999, Mullen was appointed managing editor for sports and oversaw all Salt Lake Tribune sports coverage for the 2002 Winter Olympics. She became a columnist in April 2002, writing three columns a week for the Utah section cover.

Holly is married to Ted Wilson, former mayor of Salt Lake City, and the mother of two.
Also featured at the women’s conference is Dr. Stanley H. Block’s presentation on “Transform Your Life in a Matter of Hours” workshops.
An adjunct professor of law and psychiatry at Seattle University School of Law and adjunct professor of psychiatry at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Block is developing medical applications and practice centers based on Bridging the I-System’ principles.
He is board certified in psychiatry and psychoanalysis. He has had academic appointments and taught at a number of medical schools, including his alma mater, UCLA. He lives in Tacoma, Wash., with his wife and collaborator Carolyn Bryant Block.
Each participant at the women’s conference can attend three workshops in the morning and one in the afternoon. Workshops include Dr. Rex Neilsen’s presentation on “State-of-the-Art Options for Women’s Health Care,” Darren Hotton’s “Making Sense of the Medicare Prescription Drug Problem (Medicare Part D),” Julie Anderson’s “Heart, Mind, Body and Soul: Herbs and Health,” Carolyn Hunter’s “Your Mind and Body, Keeping Well Honed,” Carol Walker’s “Identity Theft,” Melissa Combs’ “Coaching Your Business to Success, Writing Business Plans and Financing,” Troy Christensen’s “Color Me Crazy” and Katie Sutton’s “Technology Safety.”
Attendees should be prepared to cover cost of attendance. Full cost is $16. For those wanting lunch only, the cost is $12, which includes Mullen’s keynote address and Block’s afternoon workshop on transforming your life.
