Every other week during the construction season, the Utah Department of Transportation issues a report to advise motorists of major construction projects in the southern half of Utah that may impact traffic. Some road projects are excluded from the report due to short duration or low traffic impact. The report also excludes information on federal, county or city projects unless UDOT is directly involved. Construction schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather, equipment problems, or emergency situations.
•U.S. Highway 6 – Helper Interchange. Project includes the construction of a grade-separated interchange on Highway 6 at North Main Street in Helper. The interchange will feature a bridge over Main Street with new on- and off-ramps onto Highway 6. Crews are currently building retaining walls, placing pipe culverts, and driving piles for the bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction with a reduced speed limit. Motorists should expect minimal delays. The project is expected to be completed in July 2008.
•Highway 6 – milepost 283 to 288 (about 10 miles north of I-70). Project includes the addition of uphill passing lanes. Crews are currently performing shoulder excavation work. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction with a reduced speed limit. Motorists should expect minor delays throughout the summer. The project completion is expected in the fall.
•U.S. Highway 191 – milepost 147 to 151 (about 15 miles north of Moab). Project includes the addition of passing lanes. Crews are currently excavating shoulder areas of the roadway. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction with a reduced speed limit of 55 miles per hour. Motorists should expect minimal delays. Project completion is expected in July.
•Highway 191 Milepost 95-110 (about 10 miles south of Moab). Project includes the addition of passing lanes in three locations (milepost 96 to 99, 104 to 106 and 108 to 110). Crews are currently working from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and are excavating shoulder areas. Traffic is reduced to one lane in alternating directions as directed by flaggers and pilot cars. Motorists should expect delays of up to 20 minutes while traveling through the area. Speed limits are reduced. Project completion is expected in September.
•Interstate 70 between Gooseberry and Spring Canyon. Project includes the reconstruction of pavement and replacement of guardrail from Gooseberry to Spring Canyon (milepost 63 to 73). Crews plan to begin work by mid April and will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction with a reduced speed limit. Project completion expected in November.
