Loretta Preston
SUNNYSIDE/PRICE – Loretta Anderson Preston, age 73, passed away on April 8, 2007 at home with her loving family around her.
She was born Jan. 7, 1934 in Price, to Rell and Lois Alger Anderson. She was raised in Sunnyside and Price where she met her eternal sweetheart John C. Preston. They were married in the Manti LDS Temple on May 18, 1951. On May 18 of this year, John and Loretta would have celebrated their 56th anniversary. Together, they raised five children, four boys and one daughter.
They moved to Springville in 1966 and have enjoyed raising their family. She later graduated from UVSC in nursing and started working at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center where she worked 25 years in the emergency room, operating room recovery, and then worked on the fourth floor for the remainder of her career.
She was very active in the community and with her family. She always had the happiest times in her life with her family. Loretta enjoyed attending her boys’ ball games, and her daughter’s singing and dancing performances. She loved spending time in the mountains and at the family cabin with family and friends. She always received great joy while planning and attending family reunions. She was active in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers of Springville. She also enjoyed working with ceramics.
Loretta served in many positions in the LDS Church. In 2002 she was a volunteer for the Utah Winter Olympics and loved the experience and the many people that she met and helped.
She is survived by husband, John C. Preston; sons, John C.R. (JoNan) Preston, Mapleton; Jeff L. (Diane) Preston, Mapleton; Michael C. (Teresa) Preston, Rexburg, Idaho; Alan C. (Machelle) Preston, Spanish Fork; daughter, Carol Ann (Richard) Richins, Springville; 31 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pat Howard, Carolyn Kranker, Phillis Andrews, and one brother, David Anderson. She was preceded in death by both parents.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 12, 11 a.m., at the LDS Chapel at 355 E. Center Street, Springville. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 South, Springville for family and friends and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Evergreen Cemetery, Springville.
Jace Vetere
GREEN RIVER – Our loving son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend, Timothy Jace Vetere, age 18, passed away on April 7, 2007 due to injuries sustained from an off-road motorcycle accident.
He was born Jan. 9, 1989 in Price to Timothy Jay and LuRey Hatt Vetere.
Jace was an outstanding senior at Green River High School where he participated in sports. He was the catcher for the baseball team and a guard on the basketball team. Jace was a great defensive player and played in the All-Star basketball team in March. Jace threw the javelin for the Pirates and was on the path for taking the state championship. Jace was helping to build the new gym for his high school.
He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and Outstanding Boy Scout of the Year award. He loved to work with woods and metals and could build just about anything, such as building the gazebo with his brother for his sister’s wedding. For his Eagle Scout project, he built rough lumber benches to place around town. He was nicknamed, “The Machine” because of his strong desire and work ethic, you knew that Jace was the man to get the job done. Jace has been a high honor roll student for his entire school career and was awarded Emery County’s Student Hero of the Year in 2006.
He had a passion for life, the outdoors, and anyone or anything that was in need of his help. When not in school you would find him hunting with his dad, brother or friends. With Jace’s large hands and even bigger heart, he would find time for the smallest child or oldest adult.
Jace is survived by parents, Tim and LuRey of Green River; sister, Taffee (Korry) Nielson of Vancouver, Wash.; brother, Weston Vetere; grandparents, Rey Lloyd and LuJuan Hatt; grandfather, Jay Vetere, all of Green River; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a large group of friends. He was preceded in death by grandmother, Jacqueline Vetere.
His charismatic smile and contagious laughter will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 14, noon, at the Vetere Farm, located five miles north on Hastings Road. A viewing and visitation for family and friends will begin at 10 a.m. Interment, Elgin Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made at Key Bank to the Timothy Jace Memorial Fund.
