A Carbon runner steals second just as the throw arrives during an earlier game vs. Emery. The Lady Dinos lost to Union High 5-0 this weekend.

With spring break only hours away, the Carbon High softball team had one last task to take on. They ventured up north to take on powerful Union High. Last season, the game might have been a very lopsided affair as the top ranked region 10 team took on the Dinos, but this year they are showing signs that they are turning things around.
Even though the final score was 0-5 in favor of Union, that didn’t tell the story. Carbon and Union went three scoreless innings before Pitcher Paige Pinedo gave up a run in the fourth. She gave up another in the fifth, but the game was truly within reach. It was an error in the sixth that really opened the door to allow the final runs and the game to slip away.
Coach Pinedo saw this as a well played game by the Dino defense and pitching. What frustrated him and the entire team was the absence of any offense at the plate. Even though it was an error that really opened up the Union lead it was only one of two on the entire afternoon for the team. The Dinos have been struggling with errors in the early going, so this was a significant improvement against a very good team.
Pitching was another bright spot for Coach Pinedo and Paige Pinedo only walked one and hit one to keep herself and the team in the game. “We saw some really good things on Wednesday. I don’t know if it shows yet, but we are getting better. One of these days soon, we are going to put all the pieces together.” Pinedo commented as he summed up the game. Many of the girls got a little extra work in the JV Polar Bear Classic the weekend before. The JV split two wins and two losses. Ericka Potts saw some playing time and hit a pair of homers.
This week the team travels to North Sanpete on Tuesday and then has a key double header with Delta on Thursday. That game will be on the road as well.
