Rantings and Ravings

By Sun Advocate

On-line banking is one of the best things to come around in a while. I love the freedom it gives you to keep up on the balances in your accounts, see what has cleared and not cleared on any given day.
Just the other day, one of my bills came and it stated that I had missed a payment and demanded the balance of my account immediately. I was sure I had paid the bill and went on-line to check. It was a Saturday when this happened so in the past I would have been stuck until Monday to do this. I saw that not only had I paid the bill, but the business had cashed it two days before the bill was due.
Equipped with this information and a printed copy of the check I was able to deal with the problem easily. It also allowed me the peace of mind for the weekend, knowing that I had really paid the bill and it wasn’t lost in the mail.
I could pay many of my bills through on-line banking, but even though most businesses are encouraging this, most charge a fee for us to do it. It becomes a choice to pay the fee, buy a stamp, or use gas to run the bills around town. I will stick to using a stamp until the cost of on-line bill paying and stamps are a wash. With the price of postage going how it is, it is coming soon.
The most frustrating thing for me about on-line banking is that because hackers are becoming better and better about cyber-spying and stealing, the banking industry continues to have to make changes to keep our funds safe.
My bank account now times out at about 10 minutes and if I haven’t touched the mouse, I have to log back in. It takes me over ten minutes to balance my account. I forget to reach up and wiggle the mouse to keep the screen active. Last week I had to log in three times just to finish balancing my account and paying my bills.
As annoying as it is, I am glad that there are those who can figure out ways to keep my money safe. I just wish I had much more in the bank to be protected. Maybe I need a trip across the border to buy that winning lottery ticket. I am the next power ball lottery winner waiting to happen,
I can feel it in my bones.
