Gates will be closed in various spots in the Manti-LaSal National Forest this spring until the roads dry out, says the Forest Service.

A snow pack well below average coupled with recent warm temperatures has resulted in melting conditions all across the Manti-La Sal National Forest.
“Elevations below 7000 feet have lost most of their snow already,” commented Mesia Nyman, Ferron/Price District Ranger. “Each year we close gates during the snowmelt period as per forest supervisor orders to protect the investment we have in roads and trails and to prevent unnecessary resource damage. This usually occurs in late April or early May. It has become apparent that we need to implement closures now.”
Seasonal closures for Horn Mountain and OHV trails such as the Hole Trail, Black Dragon Trail, and Rock Canyon Trail will also remain in place until April 15 to protect wildlife on winter range.
These closures are identified on the Forest Travel Map and are in effect each year between Dec. 1 and April 15.
Forest roads and trails now closed by Forest Supervisor Orders include the following.
•Miller Flat 50014. Gate at junction of Lowry Water Road is now closed.
•Lowry Water 50038. Road closed about mile north of Black Canyon.
•Ferron Canyon 50022. Gate closed on dugway below Ferron Canyon overlook.
•Cottonwood Canyon 50040. Gate closed at junction with Mill Canyon
•Mill Canyon 50060. Gate closed at Cottonwood Canyon.
•Trough Springs Ridge 50018. Gate closed at junction with U264.
•Reeder Canyon Trail 5091. Trail closed at Reeder Canyon drainage.
