Nat Chaijaroen blocks shot from Grand player. Chaijaroen scored both of Carbon’s goals in the two games. |
The Carbon High soccer team opened its season with three straight games. They racked up three straight losses, but the first two games were as close as they could get without posting a win. They lost 3-2 to Grand and Grantsville. On Saturday a tired team went on the road and lost 5-1 to Tooele
Grand came to town first. Both teams moved the ball well and had many shots on goal during the contest. Grand’s goalies had 11 saved and Carbon’s Jake Malone had 13. With a brisk wind making the ball sail, Grand racked up all its goals in the first half. Carbon got the wind advantage and was able to put the ball in twice. Jose Munoz scored both of the points for the Dinos. Still they fell short of their come back to lose their season opener.
Grantsville was up next. The Dinos took an early lead, scoring twice in the first half. They controlled the tempo in the first half. But Grantsville took advantage of a late let down in Dino energy to score three quick goals. The Dinos made some good shots at the net, but just could not poke another across before time ran out. Nat Chaijaroen scored both of the Carbon goals.
Playing their third straight game in as many days took its toll on the team. Jose Munoz scored in the first half to keep the team in the game. It was 3-1 at the break. Tooele was not through as they pushed two more past Carbon’s goal to finish off the game.
They will have a few days to rest up and work on their game before Grand shows back up for a rematch on Match 28. Game time will be at 3:30 p.m. on the soccer field behind the high school.
