CEU second baseman Colby Read gets ready to throw to first after fielding a sharp ground ball.

After starting conference play with a sweep against Colorado Northwestern, CEU began March with a four game homestand against Salt Lake Community College. The thunder at the plate was absent for the Eagles as they lost 3 of 4 to the visitors.
The first game on March 3rd the Eagles couldn’t stop the scoring from SLCC. CEU could only get four across as they gave away 11 to lose the first game. The second game they only allowed five across by their opponents, but could only score one to lose the second game.
On March 4th they again let five come across for SLCC as they went down to defeat 5-2. The bats finally came alive for the Eagles in game four as they pushed six of their own across the plate while allowing five from SLCC. They salvaged the final game of the series. Marcus Hamatake was the pitcher of record with the win.
The team predicted to take all in the SWAC this season, Southern Nevada rolled into town on March 9th. For the fourth game in a row, CEU allowed five runs to be scored against them. With only a single score to their own credit they took a loss in the first game of the series. The second game of the afternoon had Jayson Madson at the mound. He was credited with a shutout win over CCSN as the Eagles posted the 2-0 victory.
Saturday was a different story. CCSN’s bats were booming as they took both of the final games with big scores. In the first game they beat CEU 2-15 and in the second it was 1-14. The team will go on the road to play CSI this weekend.
CEU is currently tied for 4th with SLCC in SWAC action. They sit at 6-6 in conference play and have a 7-9 record overall. Both SLCC and CEU sit four games back of conference leading CCSN and only one game back of both CSI and Western Nevada.
