Deadline for FYI – is Tuesday at noon. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or e-mailed to fyi@sunad.com. Items submitted after the deadline will run in the next week’s FYI. All items are subject to editing.
St. Anthony’s blood drive – is scheduled March 12 from to 2 to 7 p.m. in the basement at the church, located at 5 South Main in Helper. To schedule appointments, residents may contact Suzette Welch at 613-1536.
Child development screenings – The school district, early intervention and Head Start will offer free screenings for children 5 years of age or younger March 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Southeastern Utah Health District, 28 S. 100 East, Price. Screenings for possible admission into available programs or preschools will include vision, speech/language, hearing and development. Birth certificates and immunization records are required for children undergoing the screenings. For information and appointments, local residents may contact the program at 613-9492, extension 101.
Civil Air Patrol – The Castle Valley Composite Squadron offers senior participation and co-ed programs for 11- to 18-year-old youth. CAP units provide emergency services, including air and ground search and rescue. Seniors and cadets participate in flying activities. For information, call the volunteer organization at 637-6303.
Food handlers classes – Two-hour sessions are scheduled March 27 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah Health District in Price, 28 South 100 East. Test fees required. For information, contact Claron Bjork at 637-3671.
Carbon County Humane Society – offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month at 5 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. Contact the society at 637-0588 for appointments. Doghouses are needed and members will collect donations at local residences.
Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Castle Country Habitat for Humanity – is accepting applications. Donations may be sent to PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501. The office is located at 150 S. 700 E. Price, UT. For information, contact the organization at 637-9701.
Free legal clinics – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the district court complex, 149 E. 100 South, Price. Residents should bring all pertinent documents pertaining to questions. For information, Carbon County residents may contact the agency toll-free at 1-800-662-1563.
Price Main Street program – The board meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon in room 207 of Price City Hall. For more information, contact Melanie Steele at 820-1290.
Women’s cancer screening – Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.
Carbon County RSVP – Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or may need the assistance of volunteers may contact the Price RSVP office at 637-9118 or call the East Carbon office.
Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation – needs adult volunteers to feed orphaned animals and clean facilities. Donations are accepted. Dedicated hunter hours may be worked through the program. Carbon County residents may call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.
Helper community development committee – meets Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the civic auditorium.
CASA volunteers needed – Court appointed special advocate volunteers are men and women who want to help abused and neglected children. Residents interested in volunteering to participate in the program may contact the CASA coordinator at (435) 381-5595.
Carbon Family Resource Center – Story time is Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. The free lending library open to the community. Library includes items for children, teens, parents and grandparents. CFRC is located at Castle Valley Center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Drive, Price. For information, local residents may call the center for hours at 650-3830.
CEU Library – Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The library is closed on weekends during school breaks. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.
Rape crisis hot line – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Golden Rule Mission – Residents may donate tax-deductible garage/yard sale leftovers to Golden Rule Mission in Helper.
Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; closed Sunday and holidays. Story time is Monday at 11 a.m. for toddlers, Tuesday at 5 p.m., Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Residents interested in English as a second language or basic literacy classes Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m. may contact Paula Lewis at the library. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents may use the nursery for respite, doctor and mental health appointments, court appearances, medical emergencies, family crisis, A/Narcotic Anonymous meetings, divorce classes and to escape domestic violence. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. For information, call the center at 637-0281. The center is also collecting donations for displaced families. Furniture items will be accepted only if the center has families in need.
Helper library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, noon to 6 p.m.; Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library offers Internet accessible computers and will obtain books for patrons through the inter-facility loan program for patrons at no cost or fees. CEU museum – A program for children ages 5 to 12 is slated the second Saturday of the month. Activities will be presented in the classroom from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Space is limited to 20 participants per Saturday. Call Shawna Carroll at 613-5760. Price library’s 50th birthday celebration – The schedule of activities includes:
March 7, 5 p.m., story time.
March 17, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., birthday lunch.
March 22, 1 p.m., birthday cake.

Ballet Repertory Ensemble – Performances scheduled at 7:30 p.m. at CEU Geary Theater include the contemporary concert April 25 and 27; and classical concert, April 26 and 28. All performances start at 7:30 p.m.
Lenten lunches – will be served from noon until 12:45 p.m. at Price Community Methodist Church on the following dates: March 7, with Pastor Dan Samuelson; March 14, with Rev. Jessica Hatch; March 21, with Father Ed Metzger; and March 28, with Pastor Andrew Lasslo.

VFW field officer – will be at Price workforce services March 22 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to assist veterans in applying for VA benefits. Veterans need not be VFW members to qualify for the free assistance.
