Verla Dunn
HELPER – Verla Bee Bartlett Dunn, age 78, passed away Jan. 30, 2007 in Price.
She was born Aug. 11, 1928 in Helper to William J. and Lola Draper Bartlett. Married Leo B. Dunn on April 1, 1949 in Helper; later divorced.
Verla retired from Holy Cross Hospital in 1993, where she worked as cashier for 26 years. She enjoyed her garden and was an excellent seamstress.
Survived by children, R. Scott (Michelle) Dunn, West Jordan; Diana Baker, Salt Lake City; grandchildren, Mark (Carly) Dunn, Troutdale, Ore.; Cheryl (Garrett) Wallin, Saratoga Hills; Terence Strawhun, Omaha, Neb.; Kimberly Pratt, Salt Lake City; and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, two brothers and two sisters.
She will be dearly missed by her devoted friend Pudge Nielson.
Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, Feb. 3, 2 to 3 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main, Price. Interment will take place at a later date in the Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
Kay Jouflas Theos
HELPER/MEEKER, Colo. – Longtime Meeker, Colo., resident Kay Theos, 86, died Jan. 29, 2007 at the Walbridge Memorial Wing.
Katherine Jouflas Theos was born on Dec. 20, 1920 to Greek immigrant parents John and Zoitsa Jouflas in Helper. At a very early age Kay’s mother, Zoitsa, died. Her father, John, remarried and Kay and her brother, George, were reared in a loving home by their stepmother, Sofia Jouflas.
Kay attended school and graduated from Carbon High School in Price. After high school she was employed by the local coal mines. Kay always reminded her family of making 10 cents an hour and always having enough money to buy her own shoes.
On Jan. 27, 1946, after a World War II correspondence courtship, Kay was united in marriage to Tom Theos. Tom and Kay moved back and forth between Grand Junction and Meeker, Colo., moving their sheep between rangelands. To their 61 year union three children were born, Angelo “Butch” Theos, Zoitsa AlKhattat and Elena T. Mogensen.
These children were reared with the idea of never complaining of being tired or admitting to ever being sick. After all, Kay’s standard answer to being asked how she felt was always “fine.”
Being a sheepman’s wife, Kay and Tom’s children remember the comment from their dad that the weather brought snow or rain, cold or drought to which their mother would ask, “Is that good or bad?”
Kay was very proud of her Greek heritage. She could fluently speak Greek but also was able to read and write in Greek. She traveled to Greece three times and also traveled to Egypt and throughout most of the western United States. Yearly Kay, Tom and their daughters would venture to either Las Vegas or Reno, Nev., where Kay loved to play the nickel slots.
Kay will long be remembered for her personality, her love for her church, her home, which was always open for friends, relatives or those just passing by. She is renowned for her Greek cooking and her Greek folk dancing, her love for her children and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kay is survived by husband of 61 years, Tom Theos; son, Angelo Theos and wife, Karen; daughters, Zoitsa AlKhattat and husband, Mohammad; and Elena T. Mogensen and husband Jim and family. She is also survived by grandchildren, Thomas A. “Willy” Theos and wife, Molly; Katrina Springer and husband, Shawn; Anthony Theos; and Lebeba AlKhattat. Filling her life with hugs and kisses were her great-grandchildren, Brady and Kaylee Springer; and the special joy of her life who made his Yiayia’s last days a delight, 1-year-old Angelo Thomas Theos. She was preceded in death by parents; as well as only brother, George Jouflas.
Funeral services will be Friday, 10 a.m. at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church in Craig, Colo. A visitation is planned Thursday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Trisagion service at 6:30 p.m. at Cockran Memorial Chapel in Meeker, Colo. Interment, in the Highland Cemetery in Meeker, Colo., at 12:30 p.m.
Friends may make memorial contributions to either St. John’s Orthodox Church or the Walbridge Memorial Wing through Cochran Memorial Chapel, PO Box 1048, Meeker, CO 81641, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Jeremiah Christensen
TUCSON, Ariz. – Our beloved Heavenly Father has taken our precious son and brother, Jeremiah “Miahs” Christensen, home on Jan. 29, 2007 at the age of 28.
He was born Jan. 16, 1979.
Miahs was the most loving and caring person; he had the biggest heart and often gave everything he had for the service of others. He had a great sense of humor, loved to cook, and was always the life of the party. He dedicated his life to our Heavenly Father on April 4, 2006. He expressed how there “wasn’t enough time in this life or 100 lives to show how much one could love another.”
We are so blessed our Heavenly Father allowed us to have him in our lives for such a short time. Although he is so missed, we are grateful he no longer has to deal with his struggles within.
Jeremiah is survived by mother, Margaret P. Christensen; 11 brothers and sisters; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; fiance, Melissa Lawsen; and stepson, Nathan.
A small memorial service in his honor will be Feb. 1, at the Trinity Christian Center.
Dorothy Wilson
SOUTH JORDAN – Dorothy Marvel Peterson Wilson, passed away Jan. 28, 2007 due to cancer.
She was born March 22, 1924 in South Jordan, to Henry John and Marvel Alice Ray Peterson. Married Robert Frank Wilson on Dec. 7, 1945 in San Francisco, Calif. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2000.
Dorothy serviced in the U.S. Navy during World War II. While serving she met her husband, Robert, who was also in the U.S. Navy. She was a member of the LDS Church and was known for keeping an immaculate home filled with collectables crafts and knickknacks.
Survived by son, Gary Wilson; and grandchildren, Cali R. Wilson and Shalise Ruiz. Preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
A special thanks to the nurses and caregivers of the Murray Care Center for their wonderful care.

PRICE – Myron E. Thomas Jr. “Gene”, age 74, passed away Dec. 30, 2006.
Gene has been a resident of Price for the past 10 years.

Clyde Conover
FERRON – Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Clyde E. Conover, age 87, passed away peacefully in the home of his birth Jan. 30, 2007.
He was born April 17, 1919 in Ferron to Abram Seel and Emma Ethel Jensen Conover. He married Alice Young June 20, 1944 and the marriage was later solomnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Clyde was a cattleman, rancher and public servant. He served as county commissioner, mayor, board member of the school district, water resource board and Emery County Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Clyde was an active member of the LDS Church and loved the Lord. He served in numerous callings, but none sweeter than serving with his wife in the Manti LDS Temple.
Clyde is survived by wife; sons, Barry (Kathleen), Syracuse; Gil (Melody), Ferron; daughter-in-law, Justine Goodfellow, Boulder City, Nev.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, Guy; parents; and three brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 3, noon, at the Ferron LDS Stake Center, 555 S. 400 West. The family will be at Fausett’s Mortuary, Castle Dale, Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Interment, Ferron City cemetery.
Doris Marx
PRICE – Doris Ruth Bruno Marx, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died on Jan. 30, 2007 after a long battle with cancer.
Doris was born Dec. 25, 1948 in Long Beach, Calif., the daughter of Pete L. and Doris Nelson Bruno. Doris was the oldest child in a family of six children. She married Dale E. Marx on June 28, 1969 in the Manti LDS Temple.
She graduated from Carbon High School, where she was a madrigal and a member of the first Carbon High School marching band to participate in the Rose Bowl Parade. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many different church and civic positions during her lifetime. She enjoyed cooking, crafts and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by husband, Dale, of more than 37 years; three sons, Dustin (Tara) Marx, Denver, Colo.; David (Mindy) Marx, North Salt Lake; Douglas (Holly) Marx, Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Lindsey, Jacob and Zachary, Denver, Colo.; Cameron and Spencer, North Salt Lake; and William, Houston, Texas. Also survived by father, Pete L. Bruno, Price; five siblings, Shirlie (Greg) Van Wagoner, Lake Point; Marilyn (Dean) Harmon, West Valley City; Joan (Darrell) Keller, Price; Valerie Bruno, Houston, Texas; and Doug Bruno, Salt Lake City. Doris was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Nelson Bruno.
Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m., at the Lofty Land Chapel, 351 S. Lofty Lane, North Salt Lake. Friends may call Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 East and Friday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. prior to service at the chapel. Interment, Bountiful Memorial Park.
