Glenna Pollastro
HELPER – Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Glenna Alger Pollastro, age 79, passed from this life on Dec. 15, 2006.
She was born in Cleveland on March 2, 1927 to Grover Carlos and LaVerda Winkler Alger. Married August Pollastro Sept. 27, 1952 and the marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Glenna was the ultimate “mom, grandma, aunt and friend,” specializing in making a comfortable home for all to enter. Something homemade was always available in the home or soon to be delivered to a friend in need.
She was an avid sports fan following her children and grandchildren in whatever event they participated in and defending them fiercely. She worked for Zions Bank for more than 20 years, training many new employees the art of balancing at the end of the day. She definitely had an eye for detail.
Glenna was an active member of the LDS Church, holding numerous callings, but none sweeter than serving with her husband in the Manti LDS Temple for 10 years. She was a great teacher and example to all in whatever she undertook and has passed on a great legacy to her family and the Carbon County area, where she spent her entire life.
Glenna is survived by eternal companion, August; daughter, Becky (Tom) Jensen, Glendale, Ariz.; son, Carl (Vicki) Pollastro, Helper; nine grandchildren, Glenna Leigh Jensen, Judy (Alan) Sullivan, Dean Jean, Jennifer Jensen, all of Glendale, Ariz.; Christian (Cammie) Pollastro, Herriman; Melissa (Devin) Esplin, Castle Dale; Carson (Nykelle) Pollastro, Provo; Brittany Pollastro, Salt Lake; and Dustin Pollastro, Helper; three great-grandchildren, Mick Jensen, and Cali and Carter Pollastro; brothers, Ned (Andrea) Alger, Kirk Alger, of Salt Lake; Terry Alger, Cedar City; and sisters, Ruth Collins, Spokane, Wash.; and Myrna (Jay) Rasmussen, El Paso, Texas. Preceded in death by parents; two sisters, and infant daughter, Cathy Sue.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, Dec. 19, 11 a.m., at the Helper LDS Stake Center, 150 Ridgeway. The family will be at the church Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Interment, Mountain View cemetery, Helper.

Waldon Griffin
HELPER – Our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Waldon Ernest Griffin, age 86, passed Dec. 8, 2006 in Helper.
He was born March 13, 2006 in Provo to Ernest D. and Mary Griffin. He married Ella Jensen on Dec. 15, 1951 in Salt Lake City. They were cherished companions for 42 years until her death in 1994. He has longed to be reunited with her. Nothing was more significant in his life than his wife and family.
Waldon served his country in World War II in the 82nd Field Artillery Battalion. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Dr. Randall Rupper with the VA for his kindness, tireless help and comfort.
He is survived by children, Dennis Griffin and Karrin Casper; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold and Gerald Griffin; and sisters, Evelyn Heaps and JoAnn Murdock. He was preceded in death by parents, and wife with whom he is now reunited.

Alan Saccomano
HELPER – Our beloved husband, dad, son, grandpa, brother and dear friend, Alan Craig Saccomano, age 56, passed away peacefully at home with his family after a brave battle with cancer.
He was born June 17, 1950 in Price to Dominic “Blackie” Saccomano and Hazel Shuler. Married Renee Dimick Oct. 24, 1970 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helper.
Alan was a lifelong resident of Helper and graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1968. He was an employee of the Utah Railway for 10 years and he had just received recognition for 20 years of service with the Utah Department of Transportation at the Colton shed. He loved pushing snow up Scofield and loved the “white knuckle ride” he got from pushing snow over Eccles Canyon.
His love for his family was unconditional. We were all number one in his life and everything he did was for us. There are no words to express how much we all love him and will miss him dearly.
Alan’s passion was riding motorcycles and he fulfilled one of his dreams by riding across the United States to see Niagara Falls and then onto Nashville. While traveling by himself, Alan said that he was never alone because of all the wonderful and kind people he met along the way. He was able to make friends wherever he went.
His lifelong dream was to ride into the sunset with his wife, Renee. Every time they passed a couple on a motorcycle he would comment on how he wanted that for their retirement years. They started the dream early by taking numerous trips on the new Goldwing. The most memorable trip was going down the Oregon Coast with their friends. Alan always said, “It wasn’t the destination, it was the ride!”
Alan is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Renee; daughter, Kristy (Joey) Penovich; sons, Brian (Carla) Saccomano, Kevin (Meranda) Saccomano; mother, Hazel Saccomano; brother, Tim Saccomano; grandchildren, Joey and Jordan Penovich; Bailey and Carson Saccomano; and Cameron, Dominic and Alan Ryan Saccomano. Preceded in death by father, Blackie Saccomano.
Funeral Mass Monday, Dec. 18, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Vigil service Sunday evening, 7 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Alan’s names has been established at Wells Fargo Bank in Helper.
Dennis Vail
CLINTON – Dennis A. Vail, 72, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 9, 1934 in Fairview, Wyo., to Marvin James and Elva Neilson Vail. The family later moved to Brigham City. He married Francis Peterson and they later divorced. They had one child, Denise. He then met and married the love of his life, Evelyn Hatch. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They have four sons, Michael, Gino, Adam, Daniel, and two daughters, Christina and Angela (Steven) Howard.
Dennis received the National Defense Medal, Korean Conflict Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal while serving in United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he attended Weber State University.
Dennis was a high priest in the Clinton LDS 4th Ward where he served in numerous other callings.
After his retirement from Hill Air Force Base he owned and operated “My Barber Shop” in South Ogden.
The love he and his family enjoyed was the greatest thing in his life.
Dennis is survived by wife, Evelyn; children; brother, Wayne (Audrey), Blackfoot, Idaho; sister, Marva Spiers, Brigham City; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents; grandson, Ivan; brothers, Ornet, Leon and Donald; and sister, Eva.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 21, 1 p.m., at the Clinton LDS Ward Chapel, 1000 W. 2223 North. Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 South and Thursday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Interment, Brigham City cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
Kathryn Burnham
PRICE – Kathryn Moffitt Burnham, our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away on Dec. 16, 2006 surrounded by loved ones.
Kathryn was born March 12, 1932 in Orangeville to G. Leslie and Elouise Moffitt. She was the oldest of four children. She married George Edward Burnham July 23, 1957 in Ely, Nev. They were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple. They were blessed with seven children.
Kathryn enjoyed playing the piano, singing, camping, feeling the sunshine on her face, planting flowers, spending time with her husband, and having all her children and grandchildren together. She was a very hard worker. She retired after many years of working for Price city as the city treasurer. She was thought of very highly by her fellow employees.
One of her most treasured times was while she and her husband served in the Manti LDS Temple. She felt like serving there was almost like heaven. She will be dearly missed by her family and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 21, 10 a.m. at the Westwood LDS Chapel, 175 N. 1280 West, Price. Viewing service will be at Fausett Mortuary Wednesday, Dec. 20, 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral services at the Westwood building. Family and friends are welcome. She will be laid to rest in the Orangeville city cemetery.
