Dustin Pollastro shoots over a swarm of Falcons in Friday’s game. |
It was not a good weekend for the Carbon Dinos as they let two games slip through their hands. On Friday night they lost in overtime to Canyonview by the score of 57-49. Playing an early game on Saturday night, they let Cedar walk away with a 58-50 win.
Cold shooting early in the Friday night game let the Dinos get in a hole. They were down 25-21 at the half. Not a huge deficit, but still forcing the Dinos to play catch-up in the second half. The team stepped it up and closed the gap to one by the fourth and tied it up at the end of regulation play. The Falcons took over in overtime and outscored the Dinos 9-1.
Coach Bianco was disappointed in the effort he saw on the floor. He felt the team could have beat Canyonview with a little more effort and intensity.
It was a costly loss for the Dinos. Cole Warburton injured his wrist and may be out for a while. The team will know his status on Monday. Warburton has been instrumental in Carbon’s success this season and his loss will be felt. He scored 10 with two threes in the loss before he went out. Brandon Wilson led the team with 15. He hit three long balls on the night.
Saturday night the team came out with intensity as they faced off with Cedar. Turnovers that had plagued the team the night before again became their own worst enemy. Even with the gifts to the Redmen, Carbon found itself up by five at the half. The Dinos fell behind again, but pulled in front in the third before making a series of bad shots that let Cedar regain the lead.
In the final period, Carbon made up for lost ground and pulled within three before Cedar put the game to bed. “Tonight, we had the lead and then took four or five bad shots in a row” stated an exasperated Bianco after the game. His after game talk with his team behind closed doors left heads hanging as he left the room.
Dustin Pollastro stepped up to lead the team with 15 points. Jordan Moynier added 12 after being relatively quiet on the boards the night before.
Next week the team will travel to Springville on Tuesday night. They will square off with Dixie on Friday, December 22nd. That game will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Carbon gym.
