Jenny Fiso pushes the ball down court trailed by teammate Staci Little. Little had five blocked shots on Friday |
A pair of wins was an early Christmas present for the CEU women’s basketball team. They opened SWAC conference play with decisive victories over a weaker Colorado Northwestern college team. On Friday they crushed CNCC by the score of 93-42. On Saturday it was more of the same with a 95-65 whooping of the same team.
Fast and furious summed up the CEU offense on Friday night as they dismantled CNCC’s defense. By the half they were ahead 50-19. Four CEU players were in double figures on the night with Elisha Harris leading the way with 21. Jenny Fiso with 11, Haley Rogers with 13, and Kendra Dalebout with 10 also contributed to the rout. Stacie Little had five blocks on the night to help shut down the CNCC offense as well.
The Eagles were almost as hot on Saturday night as they quickly took the lead in the game. It stayed much closer until the last few minutes of the first half when the Eagles began pulling away.
Frustration began to mount with CNCC and the play became physical. CEU went to the line for 46 shots on the night as second half play was marred by fouls. Harris topped her previous night point total as she hit for 22 points. Halee Rasmussen was also hot as she added 21. Fiso and Bresha Smith were also in double figures for the Eagles. Little ran the defense with 12 rebounds and seven blocked shots.
CEU women sit at 7-4 on the season. They are 2-0 in the conference. It is early and a game or two can change the standings in a heart beat, but for now they are tied for first with SLCC in SWAC conference play.
The Eagles will have a break until December 30th when they will take on the Idaho All-stars at the BDAC. Conference play resumes on Jan. 5th in Salt Lake against SLCC.
