The judicial nominating commission has scheduled a Dec. 15 meeting to select candidates to fill an upcoming vacancy on the 7th District Court. The opening was created when Judge Bruce K. Halliday announced his retirement from the 7th District Court, effective Feb. 16, 2007.
The purpose of Friday’s meeting will focus on selecting applicants to replace the retiring district judge, indicated the administrative office of the courts. The session will start at 10 a.m. at the 7th District Court complex, located at 149 East 100 South in Price.
From 10 to 10:30 a.m., the nominating commission will accept public comments about issues facing the Utah judiciary and refinements or improvements to the system, explained the administrative office.
Following the public comment period, the meeting will be closed to allow the commission members to select a minimum of five candidates to fill the district court vacancy.
The candidates recommended by the nominating commission will be forwarded to Gov. Jon Huntsman. The governor will consider the candidates for appointment to the 7th District Court judgeship.
