A Wellington city firefighter surveys the area near a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday morning on Utah Highway 123 approximately two miles from U.S. Highway 6. The Jeep Cherokee, driven by Sunnyside resident Jase Spencer, age 27, was traveling east toward Highway 6 when witnesses say the driver veered into the eastbound lane, in front of a coal truck. Reports indicate the driver of the coal truck swerved to avoid collision, but the SUV reportedly struck the back of the first coal trailer, sending the vehicle into a roll. A spokesperson for Utah Highway Patrol said neither Jace nor the other adult passenger, Rachael Spencer, were wearing seatbelts and both were ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. The third passenger, a 2-year-old in the back seat, was in a child seat and belted in, said the spokesperson. Jase was transported to Castleview Hospital and later taken by helicopter to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Rachael was reportedly killed as a result of the accident. The 2-year-old is reported to be in good condition, and was treated for minor injuries.
