Bessie McArthur
HUNTINGTON – Bessie Sitterud McArthur, 88, returned to her Heavenly Father Nov. 14, 2006 in Elmo.
She was born Oct. 25, 1918 in Orangeville to Jesse Randolph and Edna Stilson Sitterud. Bessie married Shirl C. McArthur March 1, 1941 in Price, solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 29, 1942.
Bessie loved to travel, worked side-by-side with her husband in the coal mine industry, was an avid reader, and an excellent seamstress. She was a great cook being exceptionally good at slow cooked spaghetti. Bessie was kind, quiet, and dedicated to her husband and family, her greatest contribution in life was her tender nurturing, and loving care of her children. In her later years Bessie loved her daily ride to Mohrland with her husband to see the deer. She served in many positions in the LDS Church and in the Manti LDS Temple for many years. Bessie also served a mission with her husband writing the History of Deseret Coal Mine.
Bessie is survived by loving husband, Shirl; children, Shirlee (Ronald) Knighton of Centerville, Sheila (Glenn) Sebring, Sharol (Don) Childs, Scott (Maureen) McArthur, Shane McArthur of Huntington, Stuart (Carol) McArthur of Parker, Colo.; brothers and sisters, LaVar (Donna), Ray (Myrleen) Sitterud, Selma (Bland) Tuttle, Ruth Cox, Neldon (Lola) Sitterud, Karen Barton, Phyllis (Jerry) May, Mac (Mary Marie) Sitterud, Sally (Kenneth) Ryan, Velda (Jack) Crumpley, Sue (Ed) Johnson, Connie (Bill) Jones, Colleen (Leon) Defriez; 26 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Clyde; sister, Elva; and grandson, Bradley Sebring.
Funeral services Friday, Nov. 17, 11 a.m., at the Huntington LDS Stake Center. Viewing Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale and one hour prior to service. Burial, Huntington City cemetery.
