Emerson Cook
FOUNTAIN GREEN – Emerson T. Cook returned home to his Heavenly Father on Oct. 22, 2006 at age 81.
He was born Oct. 14, 1925 to Thomas Henry Cook and Anna Elizabeth Nielson Cook in Fountain Green.
He graduated from Moroni High School and attended Utah State University for one year.
He joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1943 at age 18 and served in World War II as a ball turret gunner on a B-17.
After the war, he returned to Fountain Green leaving only to attend gunsmith school in Denver, Colo. and Brigham Young University in Provo.
He married LuJane Christiansen of Fountain Green in the Manti LDS Temple on July 7, 1948. They had three children, Joseph Dean, Dwight Emerson and Gwen. They have 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Emerson was a farmer and livestockman in Fountain Green raising turkeys, sheep, and cattle for over 50 years. He was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many callings including ward clerk, seventy, elders quorum presidency, high priest group leader and Manti LDS Temple worker.
He proudly served on the Fountain Green city council, Fountain Green Irrigation Company board and the Fountain Green Lions Club. His greatest loves were family, church, farm, hunting, fishing for salmon in Idaho and skiing.
He is survived by wife, LuJane; three children, Joseph Dean (Ruth) Cook of Fountain Green; Dwight Emerson (Patti) Cook of Fountain Green and Gwen (Neal) Peacock of Castle Dale; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Pershing J. (Darlene) Cook of Bel Fouche, S.D.; and Thomas Kayle (Barbara) Cook of St. George. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Ralph, Joseph, and Kermit Cook; and sisters, Phyllis Memmott and Odessa Olsen; and beloved grandson Thomas Joseph Cook.
Funeral services will be Thursday Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. in the Fountain Green LDS Chapel. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25 and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the Fountain Green LDS chapel. Interment will be in the Fountain Green cemetery under the direction of Rasmussen Mortuary.
Lawrence West
PRICE/GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Lawrence “Larry” A. West, 64, passed away suddenly on Oct. 18, 2006 in Glade Park, Colo.
He was born Feb. 25, 1942 in Iowa to Marvel and Bernice West. Married Tonia Bouse, later divorced. Later married Barbara Gearhart.
Larry lived in Price for nine years, working in the coal mines and as an electrician. He then spent 18 years in Idaho before retiring to Colorado in 2004.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Surviving are wife, Bobbie; daughter, Michelle (Robert) Saez, Kenilworth; son, Tracy (Jennifer) West, Helper; stepsons, Roger and Steve; and stepdaughters, LeeAnn, Tonia and Sue. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents.
Services were held Oct. 21 at Snell-McLean Funeral Home in Palisade, Colo. Interment was at Palisade City Cemetery.
Mary Blanc
PRICE – Loving mother, grandmother and friend, Mary Louise Blanc, age 74, passed away Oct. 20, 2006 in Price.
She was born June 29, 1932 in Castle Dale to William W. and Zelpha Irene Peterson Branson. Married Albert Blanc in 1955 in Price. They later divorced.
Mary was a member of the Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price.
She had a great love for animals, foster children and Indian art and crafts. Her greatest job was visiting with family and friends and doing word search books.
She was a security guard for the power plant for many years.
Mary will be dearly missed by her family and a community of friends.
Survived by three sons, Jamie (Suzy) Blanc, Salt Lake City; Larry (Meghan) Blanc, Price; Mike (Lisa) Blanc, West Jordan; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service Tuesday, Oct. 24, 11 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s one hour prior to service. Committal service, Castle Dale city cemetery.
