CEU Drops Two in Twin Falls

By Sun Advocate

The College of Eastern Utah volleyball team traveled to Twin Falls, to take on conference rival College of Southern Idaho last weekend. The team lost both the Friday and Saturday games to the kids from Idaho. Even though the College of Southern Idaho has again been ruled ineligible for post season play, the losses they handed CEU count in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings.
CEU has now dropped to 0-6 in SWAC play. CSI is considered to be a power in the conference and they made sure the Eagles felt it as they took the Friday match up in three straight. The match scores were 22-30, 22-30, and 17-30.
Karina Rocha again showed she is a force on the CEU squad with 12 kills. Heather McFarland was credited for 17 assists. The normally strong Maren Erickson was quiet that night for the Eagles.
The team stayed for the second meeting on Saturday afternoon, but fared no better. Going down to defeat 16-30, 23-30, and 19-30, they took a quick exit and headed home. Rocha was held to nine kills on the night, but still led the team. Erickson had six kills as well. McFarland continued to lead the team with assists and had another 16 in the match.
The team gets to try the home court advantage this weekend while taking on Salt Lake Community College. SLCC is 2-3 in conference play and the games are always heated when the two teams tangle. Friday night the match will begin at 7 p.m. with the Saturday contest beginning at 3 p.m.
