Letter to the Editor: Not Nazis

By Sun Advocate

Editor:
Recently Pres. Bush and Secretary of Defense Rumsfield, likened Americans who oppose the war in Iraq to Germans who tried to appease Hitler in the 1930s.
How stupid do these leaders think we are? Those who followed Hitler agreed with his invading other countries, his having secret torture chambers, his spying on citizens, his denying the Germans freedom of speech, etc. Those, who Pres Bush accuse of being like the Nazis, are against all of the above. In America, we have always been able to voice our opinions, criticize our leaders, etc.
lt’s a right guaranteed by the First Amendment.
Whether the war in Iraq is good or bad, Americans have the right to voice their own opinions about it without being called Nazis.
We are told that the war in Iraq is being fought to give the Iraqi people the right to criticize their leaders.Shouldn’t we have the same rights in America? If these rights are taken away from us, then we will be like (not the Nazis in Germany in the 1930s), but like the innocent German people in the 1930s.
