When Emery rolls into town, the excitement and rivalry run high. No matter where the teams are in the standings, they try and bring their best stuff to the match up. Even though Emery is at the bottom of region 8 and Carbon is close to the top, the teams battled it out in each of the three games with Carbon holding the edge in each.
Even though they defeated Emery 25-15, 25-20 and 25-20, the Dinos found themselves behind in each of the three games. In the first game Emery jumped out to a small lead early. Carbon was able to get a handle on the game midway through it and go on to close the game out with a decisive win.
In the second game, it was a seesaw battle most of the way. The Dinos pulled ahead late in the game only to watch Emery climb back in. Sitting at 24-17, Carbon only needed to regain possession to win the match. They allowed Emery to have a small scoring run, before Coach Bean called a quick time out to regroup his squad. They stopped the Spartans on the next served and claimed victory in game two.
Game three saw the Dinos falling behind early. Bean again settled his squad down and reminded them to focus on the fundamental. Emery struggled with service error throughout the match giving Carbon many unearned points. The gift help ed the Dinos stay in the match when they weren’t playing their best. Carbon did put together enough solid play to take the match in three straight.
Coach Bean admitted it wasn’t the sharpest the team had played, but he felt that homecoming and all its distractions took a toll on the girls. “We won” he succinctly summed up the night. Emery is a good young team and they will continue to get better.”
The team will take to the road next week for a game against Juan Diego. Juan Diego is tied with Delta for third with one region win apiece.
