Helper Junior High played host to the San Rafael football team on Sept. 7.
In a hard-fought game, Helper came out on top with a 31-22 win.
Everyone on the Helper squad got a chance to play in the game. Coach Phil Howa felt like it was the ninth graders who guided the team to victory.
“My ninth graders really showed great leadership and were very unselfish in their play,” he said. “They played wherever I needed them too and will do whatever it takes to win.”
Howa also felt some of the younger players stepped up and played a great game. He didn’t want to single anyone out because he felt like it was a great team effort.
The Helper Junior High volleyball team also took on San Rafael that same day.
The varsity team swept San Rafael in three straight matches. Every game was within two points as San Rafael never let up. The match went 25-23, 26-24, and 15-13.
The JV team was not as successful as the varsity. They went down to defeat in five close games.
The coaches felt like the girls played their hearts out only to come up two points short in the final match.
The day before the Mont Harmon Junior High football team played host to Canyonview Junior High.
They took the game in a decisive manner by the score or 48-12. Again the young players played well.
The team also went to Moab on Saturday and annihilated Grand by the score of 63-0.
Coach Tom Tiller feels like his team is really beginning to understand the unit concept of play.
The Pirates held Moab to a 18 yards of total offense.
