| After a multi-agency effort, law enforcement discovered suspected drugs in transit between Salt Lake City and Helper last weekend, resulting in the arrest of a 49-year-old who had reportedly been driving the vehicle. |
Law enforcement officials arrested a 49-year-old male in northwest Carbon County on Sept. 9 after an investigation led to the discovery of alleged illicit drugs valued at more than $10,000.
The Carbon Metro Drug Task Force received information that a shipment of drugs was purportedly being transported from the Salt Lake area to a destination in Helper.
The drug task force alerted local law enforcement agencies of the alleged inbound shipment and a criminal investigation into the matter started.
On Sept. 9, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Marshall located the suspect vehicle near the dam at Scofield Reservoir, according to the drug task force.
Marshall and drug task force agents conducted a routine stop on the vehicle for an alleged traffic violation near the Scofield Junction on U.S. Highway 6.
The driver, 49-year-old Robert L. Versluis, was arrested for reportedly driving while under the influence of an intoxicant.
Helper Officer Lynn Archuleta and drug dog, Brooke, assisted with the search of the vehicle Versluis was driving.
The search yielded two pounds of suspected marijuana, one-fourth pound of suspected methamphetamine and one ounce of suspected cocaine.
The law enforcement authorities estimated the street value of the suspected illegal narcotics at $10,000.
“This was a result of good police work and an example of inter-agency cooperation. Large quantities of suspected drugs were intercepted before being distributed to the streets of our community,” stated Richard Boyden, Carbon Metro Drug Task Force agent.
Robert L. Versluis was booked into the Utah County Jail on multiple counts of drug trafficking, DUI and unlawful possession/use of drug paraphernalia, concluded the drug task force agent.
