Lady Eagles have mixed results in tournaments: Wins and losses at Las Vegas

The College of Eastern Utah volleyball team traveled to Henderson, Nev., to participate in the Las Vegas Tournament Sept. 8 and 9.
The team played six teams over two days. They won two matches while losing four.
First up was Western Wyoming. CEU went down to defeat quickly as it only took WWCC two games to end the match. Match scores were WWCC 30, CEU 13 in the first game. The second game was WWCC 30, CEU 22.
CEU turned the tables on their next opponent. They downed Southeast College in two games.With scores of 30-22 and 30-10, they made quick work of their second match of the day.
Moving on their third match of the day, CEU went head-to-head with Pierce Community College. The two schools seemed to be more evenly matched than the last two match ups. CEU lost the first game 27-30. They came back to take the second game 30-27. The rubber game went to Pierce 13-15.
The final game of the day was against Jefferson College. Karina Rocha had six kills, but it didn’t help CEU. They went down in two straight games by the score of 20-30. Jefferson is ranked 11th in the nation.
After a day of pool play, CEU now faced single elimination play. They drew Central Wyoming for their first opponent. Marin Ericson and Karina Rocha led the offense. Ericson scored 12 kills and Rocha had 19 as CEU swept Central Wyoming in three. With scores of 30-26, 30-21, and 30-21 they kept their tournament alive to see another team.
Seward County Community College was set to meet CEU next. Seward is ranked 15th nationally. The Eagles took them to five games in some great battles. The first game went to Seward 34-32. CEU came back and captured the next two with 30-27 and 30-22 victories. Poised to steal the match, they faltered in game four losing 20-30. Sending the match to a fifth and final game, CEU came up short as they went down 8-15. Former Carbon High player, Jamie King stepped up and had 12 kills to join team leaders Rocha with 17 and Ericson with 18 kills on the night.
CEU now comes home to get ready for conference play against Snow on Thursday Sept. 21 at the BDAC.
