As the new school year begins, the go-cart season comes to an end. Twenty three kids ranging in age from six to 14 participated in the races this year. The rack is at the Desert Thunder Raceway and runs from the end of the school year to the beginning of the next.
As well as racing, the group rewards academic excellence for their participants. Each child who brought proof of either A’s or B’s on their final report card was given a $50 certificate courtesy of Smith’s Food King.
There are two classes for the racing season. The junior class is for boys and girls 6 to 11 years of age and they operate five and six horsepowered engines. The senior division is for the 12 to 14 year olds and they drive eight horsepower carts. The kids must have their own go-carts to participate.
