Bettie Casella
SUNNYSIDE – Bettie Carlson Casella, age 82, passed away Aug. 28, 2006 in Price.
She was born May 21, 1924 in Stromsburg, Neb., to Admiral and Ellen Nielson Knerr and was later raised by her dad, Martin B. Carlson. Married Michael (Mike) Casella on May 31, 1944 in Salt Lake City; he died May 24, 1988.
Member of the Catholic Church. Longtime resident of Sunnyside where she cherished her many wonderful friends and neighbors. Bettie enjoyed her gambling trips and a good game of cards with the ladies’ card club that met every month.
She loved camping, cooking, traveling, crocheting, and visiting with her family and friends.
Survived by daughter, Robyn Ann (Bill) Carter, Salt Lake City; son, Marty J. (Lois) Casella, East Carbon City; two grandchildren, Lonnie and Sean Huntington; faithful companion and best friend, Jay Jay. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and many longtime friends. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Mike; grandson, Mikie K. Huntington; four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral Mass Thursday, Aug. 31, 10 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Vigil service Wednesday evening, 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family will be at St. Anthony’s Thursday and Friday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
McCoy Cox
OREM – McCoy K. Cox, age 20, returned home to his Heavenly Father’s presence on Aug. 27, 2006.
He was born Oct. 31, 1985 in Provo, to Randall Scot and Deveri Cox.
McCoy loved spending time with his family. He was kind and loving to his brothers. He enjoyed sitting in his new car, listening to his stereo and watching for cute girls. He loved going to the mountains, hunting, fishing and riding his four-wheeler. He loved sitting on his mother’s bed and talking for hours. His special song for her was, “Momma, I’m Coming Home.”
He is survived by father, Scot Cox and stepmother, Troy of Castle Dale; mother Deveri Cox Larsen and stepfather, Mike Larsen of Orem; brothers, Brandon Cox of St. George; Isaac (Leslie) Cox of Santaquin; Kyley (Nicole) Cox of Santa Clara; Kallen (McKell) Cox of Santaquin; Skyler Cox of Santa Clara; Seth Cox of St. George; Shadden Larsen of Santa Clara; stepbrothers, Cory Larsen of Lehi, Jordan Stringfellow of Castle Dale; nieces and nephews, Deveri Clora, Patience, Kionna, Kyson, Ariana, Taylee; step-niece, Brilee Larsen; grandparents, Clyde R. Cox of Elmo; and DeAnn and Kimball Cox of Santa Clara. Preceded in death by grandmother, Lola Beth Cox and step-grandfather, Ervin Clive Lay of Castle Dale.
Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 1, noon in the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Burial, Castle Dale cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Rene Lopez
HUNTINGTON – Mary L. “Rene” Majors Lopez, age 75, passed away Aug. 29, 2006 in Price after a brief illness.
She was born June 20, 1931 in Roosevelt, to Paul and Esther Jorgensen Majors. Married Ernest G. Lopez Oct. 16, 1978 in Elko, Nev.
Rene was a devoted member of the Desert Edge Christian Chapel in Huntington. She was also a staunch supporter of the United Mine Workers in the area. She loved working outside in her flower garden and her green thumb could make anything grow. She loved animals and was always caring for the strays in the area.
She had a deep love and compassion for others, and this was best displayed when she was caring for her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Through her dedication to others, Rene leaves behind a legacy that will last a lifetime. “We love you Rene, and may your memory be eternal.”
She is survived by husband, Ernie Lopez, Huntington; four sons and one daughter, Paul (Susan) Hilliard, Huntington; Bruce Hilliard, Fla.; Robert Hilliard, Fort Collins, Colo.; Tereasa Hilliard, Logan; David Hilliard, Salt Lake City; sister, Bertha Wayman, Sandy; seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents; son, Ernie D. Lopez; and brothers and sisters.
Funeral service Saturday, Sept. 2, 10 a.m., Desert Edge Christian Chapel. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price Friday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. and at the church in Huntington Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Huntington City cemetery.
Mary Buffo
PRICE – Mary Buffo, a lifelong resident of the Price area, died Aug. 29, 2006.
She was born March 22, 1922 in Rolapp to Stefano and Caterina Garda Buffo.
Mary attended school in the Carbon County area, graduating from Carbon High in 1941. At the age of 12, Mary went to work in the Royal Hospital with Katherine Dart and Dr. Lavell Merrill.
After high school she attended nursing school at LDS Hospital where she earned her nursing degree. Upon graduation she worked in Springville for Dr. Rees and Dr. Anderson.
Mary returned to Carbon County where she worked in the Standardville and Spring Canyon hospitals. She returned to Price working in private practices for various doctors including Dr. Orson Spencer, Dr. William Gorishek, and Dr. Ted Madsen, where she was employed at the time of her death.
Mary always loved sports. As a young girl she participated in tennis and basketball. Through the years she had several favorite sports teams and tried never to miss a game on TV.
If there is one word to describe Mary it would be “devotion.” Devotion to her work, her patients, her friends and especially her family. She loved and cared for every member of her large extended family and never missed an occasion to be with them. Mary spent her life in service to others, never seeking recognition. She will be remembered for her quiet selfless service and her generosity to everyone.
Mary is survived by her sisters, Nellie Nesbit; Gloria Williams, both of Provo; brothers, Frank (Leola) Buffo, Spanish Fork; Steve (Marna) Buffo, Provo; Guido (Joann) Buffo, Springville; 19 nieces and nephews, 51 great-nieces and nephews; 33 great-great-nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Rosa Carter; three brothers-in-law, Don Williams, Wayne Carter and Robert Nesbit.
Funeral service Tuesday, Sept. 5, 11 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family and friends are welcome at Mitchell’s Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to service. Graveside service, Provo city cemetery at 3 p.m.
Blain Henrie
HELPER – Blain Henrie, 76, of Helper, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006 in Provo.
He was born July 29, 1930 to James Melvin and Mary Elizabeth Quinn Henrie and raised on the family farm in Miller Creek. Married Sarah Evelyn Quinn Henrie May 11, 1989 in Elko, Nev.
In his younger years, Blain enjoyed camping with his family and friends. He was a member of a local riding club. He was a prospector. Enjoyed going to the desert and the mountains. Blain really enjoyed pulling practical jokes on his family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at Joe’s Valley and running construction equipment.
Blain served in the United States Army and he was a member of the LDS Church.
Blain is survived by wife, Sarah Evelyn Henrie of Spring Glen; children, Allen (Debbie) Henrie of Price; John Henrie of Wyoming; Carrie (James) Hansen of Price; Carol Armstrong of Texas, Jim (Billene) Henrie of Price; Ken (Tanya) Henrie of Spring Glen; Daniele Henrie of Spring Glen; brother, Eph (Lela) Henrie; sister, Alice Dimick; five stepchildren; 27 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Dick Henrie; sister, Melva Huntington; grandson, Jeremiah Henrie; and previous wives, Wanda Nelson Henrie and Margaret Brown Henrie.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 2, 11 a.m., at the Helper LDS Stake Center. A viewing will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial, Price City cemetery.
Tina Knudson
PEORIA, Ariz. – Our beloved daughter, sister, mother and friend died unexpectedly on Aug. 11, 2006.
Tina was born July 7, 1970 in Orange, Calif.
She spent most of her life in California. She was residing in Phoenix, Ariz. at the time of her death.
Tina was a beautiful, strong and courageous woman with a great laugh that will be missed. She loved nice cars, country music and spending time with her family and friends. She spent the last night of her life enjoying a storm brewing on the horizon with the love of her life.
She is survived by daughter, Hannah; mother, Norella (Dan) Pilling; father, Gary (Donna) Knudson; companion, Dale Wolfe; two sisters, Julia (Jason) Dougherty and Laura (David) Perez; three nephews, Alex, Mathew and Michael; and one niece, Reina. She is also survived by five step siblings, Jason, Kasee, Bert, Dick and Lisa; Dale’s children, Steven and Scotty; and many other special friends. She is preceded in death by grandparents, Pat and Mary Gaskins and Duane and Linda Knudson; younger brother, Danny; and infant daughter, Courtney.
Tina was remembered at a small memorial service in Phoenix, Ariz. Interment of her ashes later this year in California.
Sarah Knight
CARBONVILLE – On the afternoon of Aug. 29, 2006 Sarah Marie Knight quietly slipped away to meet her sweetheart and walk hand-in-hand, side-by-side once again.
Mom was born Oct. 13, 1920 in Scofield to Raymond and Sarah Williams Wilde. She married Boyd Knight Aug. 2 1943 in Price. He died Nov. 29, 1963
She returned to school and earned an associate’s degree in business from CEU. She touched countless lives while working at the CEU library for more than 20 years, She enjoyed reading books and poetry and spending time with family and friends. She was a collector of many things. She loved pets. She was a kind and gentle spirit who brought out the best in everyone. Member of the LDS Church.
She is survived by daughter, Kathleen; adopted son, Dick Shepherd; both of Price; adopted daughter, Carol (Dennis) Hartmann of Ogden; four adopted grandchildren, two adopted great-granddaughters; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and the best neighbors and friends in the world. Preceded in death by parents, grandparents, husband, two brothers and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 1, 1 p.m., at the Westwood LDS Chapel. Viewing, Thursday evening at Fausett Mortuary in Price from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral. Burial, Price city cemetery.
