The Utah Museum of Natural History at the University of Utah, College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum, and Zions First National Bank will host a free family event in conjunction with the opening of a new lobby exhibit – Traveling Treasures: The Nature of Pattern – at the downtown Price branch of Zions Bank, 45 S. Carbon Ave. The event will be Thursday, Aug. 17, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The general public is welcome, and families are especially encouraged to come and enjoy this free event. The lobby display is a four-case exhibit of 20 different objects that is traveling the state, stopping at Zions Bank branches in many locations.
The evening’s event will include viewing dozens of fascinating, colorful butterflies from around the world, some of which are rarely seen. Christy Bills, museum entomologist and curator for the museum’s thousands of butterflies, will be on hand to show these beautiful insects.
Other activities include panning for gems, minerals and $1 coins; making dinosaur fossil molds; planting sunflower seeds; learning about shells and animal skulls; solving the puzzle of the prehistoric pots; handling real objects from the Buffalo Box; and face painting. There will be 10 activity tables for the entire family.
