Deadline for FYI – is Tuesday at 5 p.m. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or e-mailed to fyi@sunad.com. Items submitted after the deadline will run in the next week’s FYI. All items are subject to editing.
Carbon County Humane Society – offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month in the basement at 5 South Carbon Avenue in Price. Contact the society at 637-0588 for appointments. Doghouses are needed and members will collect donations at local residences. The group is also looking for interested people to come on board. Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Castle Country Habitat for Humanity – is accepting home applications. Applicants must complete 20 hours of work for the group, have been turned down for a conventional home loan and have a stable income along with additional qualifications. Volunteers and board members are needed. Donations may be sent to HHCC, PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501. Residents may volunteer for workdays, donate aluminum cans, sponsor a fundraiser or obtain applications by calling Katherine Foster at 650-0074.
East Carbon Neighborhood Watch – Sunnyside, Columbia and East Carbon residents are urged to attend Neighborhood Watch meetings the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center.
Free legal clinics – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the district court complex, 149 E. 100 South, Price. Price Main Street program – The board meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon in room 207 of Price City Hall. For more information, contact Melanie Steele at 820-1290.
Women’s cancer screening – Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.
Carbon County RSVP – Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need volunteers may contact the Price office at 637-9118 or the East Carbon office.
Cans for CARE-A-VAN – Donations assist the elderly with transportation to medical appointments. Aluminum cans may be dropped off at Howa’s on Carbonville Road. Local residents may also call the program at 637-9488 to make pick up arrangements. Cans must be bagged.
Utah Youth Village – Local residents interested in becoming proctor parents may contact Lisa Peirce at 1-888-226-6557.
Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation – needs adult volunteers to feed orphaned animals and clean facilities. Donations are accepted. Dedicated hunter hours may be worked through the program. Call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.

Helper community development committee – meets Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the civic auditorium.
CASA volunteers needed – Court appointed special advocate volunteers are men and women who want to help abused and neglected children. Residents interested in volunteering may contact the CASA coordinator at (435) 381-5595.
Carbon Family Resource Center – Story time is Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. CFRC is a free lending library open to the community. Library includes items for children, teens, parents and grandparents. CFRC is located at Castle Valley Center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Drive, Price. Call the center for hours at 650-3830. Volunteers are needed.
CEU Library – Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The library is closed on weekends during school breaks. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.
Foster grandparents – Volunteers are needed. Individuals who are at least 60 years old, have a limited income and time to share with children may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week. For information, call the program at 613-0987.

Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; closed Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Story time is Tuesday at 5 p.m., Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Toddler story time is Monday at 11 a.m. Sign up is required to participate in reading with a PAWS animal Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The summer reading program party will be Aug. 8 at 1 p.m. in Washington Park. The library will be closed Aug. 8 from noon until 3:30 p.m. Reading part for children 4-9 grades will be Aug. 10 at 5 p.m. The library will close early Aug 17 at 11:45 a.m. The library is looking for old paperback books. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes, divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. For information, call the center at 637-0281.
Helper library – is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Saturday and Sunday. The library offers patron internet accessible computers and games are available. The library delivers books to shut-ins. Hours are subject to change for convenience. Square dancing -is the first and third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the senior center located at 107 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. For information, call the center at 637-0136.
Contra dance – Dancing is the second Saturday of the month from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. A beginners session is slated at 7 p.m. at the CEU ballroom.
CEU museum – Fees have changed. Brushstrokes and Bronze. Exhibit will continue through Sept. 30, featuring Joseph Venus, Gary Prazen, James Madsen and Dan Blanton. For information about fees or memberships, contact the museum at 613-5060. Rates of memberships will remain the same.

Events


Clothing giveaway – is scheduled Aug. 4 at the family support and children’s justice center in Price. For eight years, the center has organized the giveaway for children in the Castle Valley area who need clothes and supplies to start school. Culture Connection – The schedule includes Aug. 10, Anique Welch; Aug. 17, Encore of Olie and Frankie; Aug. 24, Spanish choir; Aug. 31, Full Throttle. All concerts in the Price Peace Gardens at 7:30 p.m.
Canyon day celebration – The picnic will be Aug. 12 at Helper park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A potluck dinner will be at 12:30 p.m.. Meat and rolls will be furnished. There will be a prize drawing for items donated by participants. Bring chairs.
Castle Country King Crawlers Kids Fair – is slated Aug. 5 at 9:30 a.m. at the 4X4 park for a radio control competition. Youth 12 years of age or younger will operate battery powered vehicles. Participants ages 13 to 100 will operate gas powered vehicles. Registration is at 9 a.m.
Sunnyside reunion – The reunion will be Aug. 5 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Sunnyside Park. Meat trays will be furnished but bring your own potluck dish. Also bring your table settings.
Labor Day camp out – There will be a fee per vehicle for one or all three days. Preferred final registration will be Sept. 2 at 7:30 a.m. at the Spanish Trail Arena, Moab. All three-day camping trips depart Sept. 2 for Hole in the Rock, Dolores Triangle and Lockhart Basin. For information, contact Red Rock 4-Wheelers at 435-259-ROCK.
Flockers event – The two-day outdoor event will be presented Aug. 11 and Aug. 12 at Nine Mile Ranch. Participation fees required, with tent and camper space available. Carbon-Emery County reunion – Planned for all Castle Valley residents, the event is slated Sept. 4 at noon at the main grove in Fairmont Park, 2361 S. 900 East, Salt Lake City. VFW field service officer – will be at the Price workforce center Aug. 24 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to assist in preparing and documenting applications for VA benefits. Recovery classes – are scheduled Monday to Friday at the Golden Rule Mission in Helper from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Classes include relapse prevention, Big Book, 12 steps, traditions, spirituality and life skills. AA is 6 p.m. daily.
Price Recovery group – meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the CEU computer building.
Recovery Inc. – The Price self-help group for people with nervous symptoms and fears meets Thursday at 7 p.m. at Banasky Insurance, located at 6 W. Main , Price.

Look Good, Feel Better – The American Cancer Society program helps women address the appearance related side effects of treatment. The group meets the first Monday of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. at Castleview Hospital.
