Ten weeks from the build date of Price’s Dino-Mine Adventure Park, the steering committee has announced that Virginia Gallegos is heading the memorial gardens section of the facility.
The memorial gardens will include paving bricks purchased by residents with the names of loved ones who have passed away. A bench and flowers will be located near the gardens.
“At first, we thought the memorial gardens would be a place for parents who lost a child. But then we expanded it to include anyone who wants to honor someone they loved who has died,” said park co-chair Susan Polster.
The names will be digitally etched in black letters on the bricks.
“The bricks look spectacular,” added Polster.
Pickets, bricks and benches are still being sold for the park. Pickets built into a fence surrounding the park will have an individual’s name or family etched on the side.
Paving bricks are part of the entrance of the park. Benches, which will be placed in the park, are also available.
People interested in buying a picket, brick or bench may obtain a form online at http://www.pricecityutah.com/ or at the city’s utilities office. Residents are encouraged to buy the items by Aug. 1.
The Sun Advocate is giving readers the option of donating $5 from new or renewed subscriptions to the park during the next few months.
Community members may also contribute to the playground by participating in a golf tournament on Aug. 19 at the Carbon Country Club. More information regarding the tournament is available from Albert Vogrinec at 637-8505.
Thousands of dollars need to be raised before the build date. Contributions less than $100 may be taken to the Price city utilities office. Contributions of more than $100 may be taken to the Southeastern Utah Community Development Corporation Playground at 120 East Main in Price.
Contributions may receive a 50 percent Utah tax credit as well as the standard federal deduction.
Two thousand volunteers are needed to assist with building the project from Sept. 11 to Sept. 16. Interested individuals should sign up by calling Betty Jo Hartley at 637-6469.
Individuals who can lend tools for the build may contact Jan or Alan Young at 613-5205. All tools will be returned after the build. A list of tools needed are on Price city’s website.
The meals committee is under the direction of Judy Jenson. Residents who can help with providing meals for the volunteers during the work week may call Jenson at 637-0911.
