Deadline for FYI – is Tuesday at 5 p.m. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or e-mailed to fyi@sunad.com. Items submitted after the deadline will run in the next week’s FYI. All items are subject to editing.
Carbon County Humane Society – offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month in the basement at 5 South Carbon Avenue in Price. Contact the group at 637-0588 for appointments.
Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Castle Country Habitat for Humanity – Volunteers and board members are needed. Donations may be sent to HHCC, PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501. Residents may volunteer for workdays, donate aluminum cans, sponsor a fundraiser or obtain applications by calling Katherine Foster at 650-0074.
Head Start – Head Start is a free preschool program for children ages 3 to 5. Early Head Start is a free program for prenatal women and infants 0-3. The program offers prenatal health and education services, child development education, home visits, group activities, family and community partnerships. East Carbon Neighborhood Watch – Sunnyside, Columbia and East Carbon residents are urged to attend Neighborhood Watch meetings the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center .
Free legal clinics – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the district court complex, 149 E. 100 South, Price. Women’s cancer screening – Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.
Carbon County RSVP – Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need volunteers may contact the Price office at 637-9118 or the East Carbon office at 888-2223..
Cans for CARE-A-VAN – Donations assist the elderly with transportation to medical appointments. Aluminum cans may be dropped off at Howa’s on Carbonville Road. Local residents may also call the program at 637-9488 to make pick up arrangements. Cans must be bagged.
Utah Youth Village – Local residents interested in becoming proctor parents may contact Lisa Peirce at 1-888-226-6557.
Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation -needs adult volunteers to feed orphaned animals and clean facilities. Donations are accepted. Dedicated hunter hours may be worked through the program. Call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.
Doghouses needed – Carbon County Humane Society members will collect donated doghouses at local residences.

CASA volunteers needed – Court appointed special advocate volunteers are men and women who want to help abused and neglected children. Residents interested in volunteering may contact the CASA coordinator, at (435) 381-5595.
Carbon Family Resource Center – Story time is Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. CFRC is a free lending library open to the community. Library includes items for children, teens, parents and grandparents. CFRC is located at Castle Valley Center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Drive, Price. Call the center for hours at 650-3830. Volunteers are needed.
CEU Library – Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The library is closed on weekends during school breaks. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.
Foster grandparents – Volunteers needed. Individuals who are at least 60 years old, have a limited income and time to share with children may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week. For information, call the program at 613-0987.

Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Books for shut-ins – Helper City Library will deliver books to shut-ins. Call the library at 472-5601.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; closed Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Story time hours are Tuesday at 5 p.m., Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Toddler story time is Monday at 11 a.m. To sign up for the summer reading program for ages 0-16, call the library . Sign up is also required to participate in reading with a PAWS animal Wednesdays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The library is looking for old paperback books. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes, divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Helper library – is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Saturday and Sunday. The library offers patron internet accessible computers and games are available to patrons. Hours are subject to change for more convenience. The library will be partnering with Price City library’s summer reading program.
Square dancing -is scheduled the first and third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Karl Peterson Center located at 107 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. For information, call the senior citizens center at 637-0136.
Contra dance – Dancing will be the second Saturday of the month from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. A beginners session is slated at 7 p.m. at the CEU ballroom.
Sunnyside Rodeo – will be July 7 and July 8. Participants may sign up June 24 from 4 to 8 p.m at 435-336-2563 . The royalty contest will be June 25 at 5 p.m. at Sunnyside arena. Royalty consists of queen, first and second attendants 13 years or older and two princesses 12 years or younger.

Food Handler’s Classes – Classes will be taught in Price July 11, Aug. 22 and Sept. 27 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health department. Castle Dale classes will be July 13, Aug. 24, and Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health department. Green River classes will be July 20 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the city hall. Fees required. Events
International Days – Price city will present the event during the last week of July. The schedule includes:
July 27, opening ceremonies and a wave pool party.
July 28, booths, entertainment, recreation activities, a carnival and movies in the park.
July 29, Lions breakfast, pet contest, entertainment, booths, recreation and movies.

Community Daze – The Sunnyside-East Carbon event is slated July 7 and July 8 at Sunnyside Park. Activities include breakfast in the park, a parade, classic car show, booths, food entertainment, prizes, horseshoe tournament and movies. A rodeo will be presented July 8.
Rabbit show – The Southeastern Junior Livestock Show event is scheduled July 7 at 5 p.m. at the Ferron rodeo grounds. All breeds and pet rabbits are welcome. For information, contact Dan James at 435-384-3367.
Miss Carbon County Pageant – Scholarship pageant sign ups are available. Applications are due no later than July 1. Contact Amy Rasmussen at 650-4128 to sign up.
Canyon River Runners Art Show – is slated until June 30 at John Wesley Powell museum, 885 E. Main Street, Green River.
Castle Country Horse Show Association – Shows are slated at the Carbon County Fairgrounds on July 1, July 22, Aug. 13 and Sept. 2. Registration is at 8 a.m. Fees are required.
Clothing giveaway – is scheduled Aug. 4 at the family support and children’s justice center in Price. For eight years, the center has organized the giveaway for children in the Castle Valley area who need clothes and supplies to start school. Residents are encouraged to donate new school supplies, new or gently used book bags, gift cards and gently used clothing and shoes by July 21 .For information or to arrange to have items picked up, residents may call the center at 637-0281.
Wellington Mountaineers Rodeo -is slated July 21 and July 22 at 7 p.m. at the Wellington arena. Contestant sign-ups open July 10 and close July 17. Contact Kathie Thayn after 6 p.m. at 636-0158.
Emery cheerleading clinic – UCA-United Cheerleading Association will visit Emery County and present a one-day clinic July 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for youth 5 years old to junior high age. Registration fees include lunch. To pre-register, contact Debbie Bunnell at 435-687-2632.
Wellington Pioneer Days – The schedule includes:
July 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., roast beef and lamb dinner, with entertainment by Jeff Simms.
July 22 from 7 to 9 a.m., breakfast in the park; 10 a.m. parade; 11 a.m., booths, food, entertainment and activities for kids; noon, horseshoe tournament and bean bag toss.
Huntington Heritage Days – will be presented July 2 though July 44. On July 2 a glee club fireside is planned at 8 p.m. at the LDS stake center,. July 3 activities at the city park include contest, 5 p.m.; ATV poker rid, 4 p.m.; idol contest, 6 p.m.; ice cream social, 7:30 p.m.; and bike ride, 6:30 p.m. July 4 park activities include a flag ceremony and fun run, 6 a.m.; breakfast, 7 a.m.; patriotic program, 11 a.m.; O’brien family band, noon; mid-life crisis, 2 p.m.; games, booths and food, all day. The kids parade will start at park on Main Street at 9 a.m. The parade will follow at 10 a.m. Fireworks are slated at the arena at dusk.
Veterans
VFW field service officer – will be at the Price workforce center July 20 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to assist in preparing and documenting applications for VA benefits. Veterans should bring DD form 214, marriage/divorce papers, birth/adoption/death certificates and children’s social security numbers.

Look Good, Feel Better – This American Cancer Society program helps women address the appearance related side effects of cancer treatment. This program teaches beauty and hair techniques for women in active treatment. The group meets the first Monday of the Monday of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. at Castleview Hospital.
