Back in 2001, during His inaugural speech, President Bush made the statement “Promises made…..will be promises kept” to our military warriors.
Yesterday, 6 June 2006, while on a surprise visit to Iraq he again made a remarkably similar statement when he said to the new Prime Minister of Iraq, “I’ve come to not only look you in the eye. I’ve also come to tell you that when America gives its word, it keeps its word….”
I hope Iraq fares better than our military retirees with President Bush’s promises as he, and his Republican Administration has done everything possible to thwart the restoration of promised benefits to them.
Also, our active duty warriors of today, whom he also addressed in Iraq, should look upon his record pertaining to those that went before. If they do, they too will not be so impressed by his inane verbiage.
Nationwide, military retirees have pledged not to vote for any incumbents in the next election. We need to strongly endorse that pledge here in Utah. Justification for this movement lies in the fact that our entire congressional contingency is but mere puppets to the presidential administration. Remember, our Representative’s Cannon, Bishop, and Matheson all endorsed legislation to restore those benefits, but took literally no action to insure that HR602 was brought out of committee and placed before the full house for a vote.
Senator’s Hatch and Bennett have also taken no action aside from lip service to further their own ambitions. Let’s vote them all out starting with the four up for reelection this year.
