The Carbon High School Dinos did well in the region 8 track meet held on their home track last Thursday.
Although the meet was scheduled for Juan Diego High School in Draper, the meet was moved to Price because of the superior facility Carbon has.Juan Diego still, however, acted as host for the meet.
Overall in the meet Carbon boys finished fifth and the Lady Dinos finished third.
Winning the girls meet was Delta with 145 points followed by Juan Diego with 101 points. Carbon was next with 97 points followed by Emery with 79 points, North Sanpete with 69 points and Granite with three points.
On the boy’s side, Juan Diego captured the title with 148 points followed by Emery with 117 points. North Sanpete was third with 104 points, Delta was fifth with 74 points, Carbon followed with 50 points and Granite was last with two points.
Paul Goodrich led the effort on the boys team as he won the 800 and the 3200 and finished third in the 1600.
Brittney Banning was outstanding in winning the 100 and then she finished third in the 200 to lead the Lady Dinos. \
Here are the complete results of the Carbon participants in the meet.
First for the Lady Dinos, Samantha Smith and Patricia Smith started the day by finishing first and second in the 1600. Samantha ran it in 5:37.96 and Patricia in 5:38.88.
Allie and Amie Stewart finished third and fourth in the 100 hurdles. Allie had a time of 17.44 and Amie had a time of 17.57. Banning won the 100 in a time of 12.99.
Amie Stewart also finished fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 55.32. Banning was third in the 200 at 27.46. She was only a hundredth of a second out of second place.
Elizabeth Smith was fourth in the 3200 with a time of 13:14.08. Patricia and Samantha finished first and third in the 800. Patricia had a time of 2:30.57 and Samantha ran in 2:33.42.
In the field events, Danielle Martino finished second in the high jump with a 5’2″ jump and Allie Stewart finished sixth with 4’8″ jump.
Amie Stewart won the long jump with a leap of 16’9″.
On the boy’s side, Paul Goodrich got the team started well as he won the first event of the day. He won the 3200 with a time of 10:22.22. Goodrich also finished third in the 1600 with a time of 4:56.47 and James McKendrick finished fifth in the 1600 with a time of 5:06.92.
Travis Hepworth finished third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 18.37. Jacob Perez was fifth in the 400. His time was 53.82. Brett Wells was sixth in the 300 hurdles. Goodrich won the 800 in a time of 2:06.21.
The only Dinos to place in field events were Hepworth in the high jump as he finished fifth and Kyle Asay finished sixth. They jumped 5’6 and 5’4. McKendrick finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 145.03′.
The Carbon girls 4 X 400 relay team finished third and qualified for state. All participants who finished fourth or better and all relay teams that finished third or better qualified for the state meet that will be held this Friday and Saturday at BYU.
